The Local Service account didn't have permissions to the output .exe file, and this was why the error was occuring. share|improve this answer answered Feb 22 '09 at 5:58 Daniel O 2,17622233 1 Silly thing really. I simply ran the install from the debug folder which I thought would place the actual executable in the proper directory. The permissions did the trick. –Jeff.Crossett Apr 21 '09 at 12:39 1 It's a good thing that you posted this answer when you found the solution yourself. I had the same problem and it helped me. Local Services in Windows 8.1/10 RECOMMENDED: Click here to fix Windows errors and improve system performance A few months ago, I got the update to Windows 8.1 from Windows http://www.thewindowsclub.com/access-is-denied-local-services-windows-8-1 8 on my laptop. Since then every thing went fine and I was truly enjoying the Windows 8.1 with the "Windows Re-imagined" concept. But yesterday when I went to check the Security Center, I came to know that the Windows Firewall service wasn't running on my system. So I headed to the Local Services window by pressing running services.msc command. Here I found that only a few error 5 services were running. I tried to start the leftover services, but I wasn't able to do so. I received the Access Is Denied error. This is the screenshot with one such service: Due to this Access is denied error, I couldn't start most of the local services and this messed up my system with warning and alerts. Initially, to fix it out, I did run the SFC /SCANNOW error 5 access command to fix out any corrupted files associated with these services, but it didn't made any differences in the situation. Then eventually, I came around this solution which helped me to resolve the issue significantly: Windows could not start Service. Access Is Denied 1. Press Windows Key + R combination, type Regedt32.exe in the Run dialog box and hit Enter to open the Registry Editor. Advertisement ^ 2. Navigate to the following location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\wcncsvc 3. In the left pane of this location, right click over the wcncsvc key and select Permissions. In the Permissions window, highlight the entry Administrators. 4. Make sure you have the Full control option checked as far as Permissions is concerned. Ensure same with Users entry as well. Click Apply followed by OK when down in both cases. Finally, close the Registry Editor and reboot the system. You should now be able to start local services without any hitch. This should help solve the problem.
