see all of my icons I can click on to internet explorer and surf the web. I can get into control panel and add remove programs. What i am not able to do is http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_xp-update/unable-to-start-various-system-services-error-5/b2e2d6f2-9368-4518-b86c-36f571544649 unistall applications under add remove programs. I also cannot transfer files from my desktop to my external usb drive. When I right click on my computer and click on manage I can see the event logs but I cannot double click them for more information. I believe this all started when i got a blue screen with an Initilization failure error message. I took the hard drive out https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/04363fae-7fc6-4ebb-a274-29a6829b1e93/servicesmsc-rpc-error-5-access-denied?forum=itproxpsp of the cpu and ran a check disk on the drive. Everything ran through fine so I put the drive back and started the pc. After that the operating system loaded and I had my desktop and icons back but could not open IE. So as a quick fix i thought I would just remove IE and reinstall it. So I went into add remove programs and windows components and removed IE. This is when all my problems started. I have since then installed IE back onto the desktop but I am still having the problems listed above.I think all of this is because of my services.msc. I can open services but cannot see the extended services. There is just ablue boxand the standard services will not start properly. the main one I am concerned about is RPC. When I try to start this service I get an Error 5: Access Denied message.Cryptographic serviceswas another one that was not starting but that seems tobe fine now. I could really use some help. I have tried everything I can think of to get things back to normal but so far no luck.thankstechie2009 Monday, December 28, 20

Cannot start RPC service - "Access is denied" Started by mfork00 , Nov 21 2009 11:48 AM Please log in to reply 1 reply to this topic #1 mfork00 mfork00 Members 1 posts OFFLINE Local time:08:31 PM Posted 21 November 2009 - 11:48 AM error 5 access I am unable to start the RPC Service - it fails with "Access is denied" - which in turn is causing all the dependent services to fail. This machine was (is?) infected with spyware that I was able to remove with ComboFix. I have tried starting the RPC service manually using the command specified in the registry entry (%SystemRoot%\system32\svchost -k rpcss) and nothing happens, no error message , etc. If I try net start rpcss I get the "Access is denied" message. My first thought was to replace svchost.exe and explorer.exe with versions expanded from the Service Pack cache. Normally that is straight forward with a CD-ROM drive or the Recovery Console and unfortunately this computer has neither (its a mini). I tried to drag and drop the Recovery Console file onto CF but drag and drop is not functional on this computer (presumably because explorer.exe is not loading right). I also tried running "cf

RPC service won't start, not much works Discussion in 'Virus & Other Malware Removal' started by jessieloo, Jul 8, 2010. Thread Status: Not open for further replies. Advertisement jessieloo Thread Starter Joined: Jul 7, 2010 Messages: 4 I am having many issues with my computer and I found this post (http://forums.techguy.org/virus-oth...8826-solved-spyware-protection-pop-ups-4.html) and it seems to be the same issue. There is a script posted but I don't have access to it. Can someone repost it for me. Anyway, here are my computer issues... I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop, running Windows XP. I was using iTunes and got an alert that there was an error saving a library or some kind of iTunes file to disk (it wasn't a file I was trying to save, I assume it was some kind of program that runs in the background). I wasn't connected to the internet, I don't even have an internet connection at home. It had been several days since I was last connected to the internet and had been using the computer regularly since then. I have to mention that I may not have shut down the computer correctly b/c the battery was almost dead and I just took it out to charge it (My AC adapter doesn't work so I charge the battery externally.) The next time I turned on the computer, there was no task bar. The sound doesn't work (just loud beeps) and half of the services that are set to run automatically aren't started. When I try to start most of them, I get error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start. When I try to start RPC, I get error 5: Access is denied. The extended view of services doesn't display and the properties screen doesn't show for any service either (properties menu won't work for most things in control panel, also) I can copy files but I can't paste them. I am able to write files through programs though (if I open an image in photoshop elements, I can save it in another location, but I can't copy and paste it directly) "User Accounts" in the control panel is just a blank screen with no options. I can see some error events in the System Log but it won't let me see the details. The first error event was Netlogon #3095 & the next several were all Workstation #5727. Just some more info, the last software change I made in a while was installing "Nikon Transfer" and "ViewNx" software that came w
