Access is denied. (Error code: 5)" OS: Windows 7 The error happens when I try to run Calibre from a location in drive D: If I copy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1246798 the folders to drive C: (where windows is installed) Calibre runs without a problem. It looks like a permissions problem when trying to create a temp file. When I create a temp file using Path.GetTempFileName(), will windows automatically clean that up later? What about if I create a directory under Path.GetTempPath()? Will windows clean it up? Or is it the developer's responsibility to delete files created there? .net temporary-files share|improve this question asked Feb 8 '12 at 21:02 Ronnie Overby 17.9k41192289 add a comment| 5 Answers 5 active oldest votes up vote 10 down vote error 5 access No they do not get deleted automatically. In order to create a file that will be deleted automatically when it is closed, pass FILE_FLAG_DELETE_ON_CLOSE to CreateFile. The file is to be deleted immediately after all of its handles are closed, which includes the specified handle and any other open or duplicated handles. If there are existing open handles to a file, the call fails unless they were all opened with the FILE_SHARE_DELETE share mode. Subsequent open requests for the file fail, unless the FILE_SHARE_DELETE share mode is specified. In order to gain access to this Win32 functionality from .net, use the SafeFileHandle class. share|improve this answer edited Feb 8 '12 at 21:45 answered Feb 8 '12 at 21:12 David Heffernan 430k27585952 1 FILE_ATTRIBUTE_TEMPORARY will not delete the file automatically either. That flag merely hints to the OS to try to cache the file in memory as much as possible and possibly forgo the physical medium. The flag you want is FILE_FLAG_DELETE_ON_CLOSE. –Jesse C. Slicer Feb 8 '12 at 21:43 @JesseC.Slicer You are right, brain freeze on my part. I've now corrected. Thanks. –David Heffernan Feb 8 '12 at 21:47 No problem, sir! +1 for the info. –Jesse C. installed on a server running Windows Server 2003 and using an AMD Opteron 64 bit processor. However, the Tectia service could not be started. The following error was reported in the Event Viewer: "101 Server_start_failed, Error: Generic error,"sshdap wasn't found in lsa registry key". Known: It is known that Tectia server software is not yet compatible with the Itanium 2 processor that can be found on the HP Superdome platforms and running Windows 2003 Datacenter. It is believed though this incompatibility does not extend to other 64 bit processors. Corrective Action taken so far: The installer could not find the sshdap.dll file in the C:\WINDOWS\System 32 directory. It does appear in the C:\Program Files (x86)\SSH Communications Security\SSH Tectia\SSH Tectia Aux\Support binaries directory. The installer did the 'sshdapinstall.exe -u' (uninstall) at a command prompt in the C:\Program Files\SSH Communications Security\SSH Tectia\SSH Tectia Aux\Support binaries directory. No error was returned. The installer then followed up with the 'sshdapinstall.exe -i' (install) in the same directory and got the following error: "GetTempFilename failed: SystemError: The directory name is invalid." Any recommendations to get the Tectia service running given the description above is greatly appreciated. windows server asked Feb 17 '10 at 21:49 P. Smith 11●1●1 edited Feb 18 '10 at 07:52 Ville Laurikari ♦ 131●1●2●9 Then again it could be something else. Are you seeing an error on the system event log regarding the side-by-side assembly when installing server? (Feb 18 '10 at 09:02) Roman ♦♦ One Answer: oldestnewestmost voted 1 Is it possible for you to upgrade to the latest version of Tectia Server? For example 6.0.15 or 6.1.4 ? This might be caused by a problem in the version that you're running which is fixed in more recent versions of server. If you're unable to upgrade then there might be a workaround but the simplest solution would be to upgrade. link
