every time, this error willcome up the first time I try to dial in, but when I redial it goesthrough (although sometimes I get the error several times before itsuccessfully connects).I don't think it's the ISP, because I tried a different one and hadthe same problem. I tried reinstalling the modem, too, with no effect. There were no newer drivers available.Nothing has changed on my end to cause this, that I know of. Doesanyone know of a setting or something that could be changed, or isthis just a symptom of the modem going bad? It's a USR 5699B.TIA,Mike Haggis 2004-03-03 15:51:31 UTC PermalinkRaw Message try deleting your dialup connection and making a new one.Post by MikeI'm using Win98 FE, and recently when I try to dial up I get Error631: port disconnected by user. To remove the DUN registry keys, go to Control Panel, Add-RemovePrograms, Windows Setup tab, double click Communications and make a listof checked items. Hit cancel, remove the mark from Communications andhit OK. Do not reboot.2. Go to Control Panel, Network, and make a list of the components thatare installed. Leave any hardware adapters (i.e., NICs, IR ports, etc.)that are present unless you want to reinstall the drivers for them.Delete all adapters, clients and protocols such as Dial Up Adapter,Client for MS Networks, and TCP/IP. Hit OK and reboot.3. Once restarted, go to
