of actually going wrong. Many a times I suggest people to keep away from it as much as possible. But it cannot happen all the times https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/eb3e5d08-45e9-445d-920a-8281b6544024/getting-error-7399-ole-db-provider-msdaora-reported-an-error-linked-server?forum=sqlsecurity and there are code blocks in their application that relies on this as a requirement. This is one of the common error I see in various forums. an error Q.: When attempting to connect to the AS/400 from the SQL Servers Linked Server, I received this error message: Error 7399: OLE DB provider http://www.hitsw.com/support/kbase/sql_servers/error7399.htm HiT OLEDB400 reported an error. A.: Several factors could cause this error: 1. First of all, please remove all the linked servers that do not work from your Enterprise http://stackoverflow.com/questions/26267224/the-ole-db-provider-microsoft-ace-oledb-12-0-for-linked-server-null Manager. At this point, it is recommended that you save all changes (if any), exit from Enterprise Manager and stop SQL Server from the SQL Server Service Manager. Wait for about 5 error 7399 seconds or so before turning the SQL Server back on, then start creating the linked server: Make sure the udl file you have used to create the linked server is able to connect to the AS/400. Test it using the HiT OLEDB Toolbox. (From Toolbox, go to Test, double click the data link you would like to test. A dialog box will appear, type sql server error in the user id and password to the AS/400 and hit enter. If the data link has no problem connecting, it should pass all tests). 2. Once we have determined that the data link is not a problem, we should make sure the linked server is configured correctly: a. Make sure the Provider name is HiT Software OLEDB Provider for DB2/400, and that only the name of the udl file (including the .udl extension) is entered into data source. b. Go to the linked server properties and the "General" tab: click the button labeled "Provider Options". Make sure that "Allow In Process" is enabled. This is essential. c. From the Security tab, please make sure that no item is entered in the top portion of the form, and that only "Be made using the security context" is checked. Your AS/400 user id and password should be entered in "Remote login" and "With Password". 3. If this still does not solve the problem, make sure the oledb400.dll is correctly registered into the Registry. Exit once again from SQL Server and stop it from the Service Manager. Locate the oledb400.dl

I have researched answers to no end and none have worked for me. I'm running Office 365 (64bit). I have loaded the Microsoft Access Database Engine (64bit). This is in Visual Studio 2013 with SSDT as well as SQL Server 2012. I do not have access to changing environment or startup parameters to SQL Server. Any help is appreciated.
