file and NI-488: DMA Hardware Detected. I checked the permissions on all of my files and I am not using any hardware. Why am I getting this error? Solution: There are two reasons. Either another application is accessing the same file or the file is already open. Check your other open applications to make sure %temp% that they close the file before your program opens it. If you have manually opened the file, make sure you close it before you run your program. For example, if you are writing to an Excel spreadsheet and have opened the Excel file to check the data, close Excel before you write more data to the same spreadsheet. LabVIEW 8.5 or Later Primary Software: LabVIEW Toolkits>>LabVIEW Application Builder Primary Software Version: 8.5 Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A Secondary Software: LabVIEW Development Systems>>LabVIEW Professional Development System Problem: When I try to create an application with Application Builder, I get the following error: Error 8 occurred at Copy in AB_Engine_Copy_Error_Files.vi» AB_Application.lvclass:Copy_Error_Files.vi» AB_Application.lvclass:Copy_Files.vi» AB_Build.lvclass:Build.vi»AB_EXE.lvclass:Build.vi» AB_Engine_Build.vi»AB_Build_Invoke.vi»AB_Build_Invoke.vi.ProxyCaller Solution: Common Solutions: Check permissions on the directory you are be writing to. Sometimes when you try to build your application to a shared network drive, you might not have access to write to this drive and you will receive Error http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/F5D5F6798A9367CC86256F6C007A968D 8. Having the Application Builder save your executable to a local drive will solve this issue. Either another application is accessing the same file or the file is already open when you are trying to create the executable. For more information please refer to this KnowledgeBase article. Windows Firewall or the local Anti Virus program is blocking the application. Disable both and try to build the http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/BAF0ACFA708F1D19862574C8005248E7 application. Another Possible Solution: If your error file says: This error can be due to an option selected while setting up the build for your executable—Copy error code files in the Advanced section of Application Builder. Copy error code files adds copies of XML-based LabVIEW error code text files from the project\errors and user.lib\errors folders to the run-time engine. To alleviate this error, uncheck Copy error code files as you are building your application. You can fix the issue by following these steps: From the Project Explorer view right click Build Specifications. Select New»Application (EXE). Select the Advanced category of Application Builder and uncheck Copy error code files option as shown below. Note: For VI's built in 8.5 that have been compiled to LabVIEW 2009 or higher, you may also need to uncheck the Use LabVIEW 8.x file layout option as shown below. If you rebuild your application, the error should no longer appear. Related Links: KnowledgeBase 3GFF9FBP: Why do I get "Error 8 Occurred at Open File" When Writing to or Reading from a File? Solution: Files originating from a non-writable medium such as a CD-ROM are marked as read-only by the operating system. error 8 Any high-level File I/O function that uses the Advanced File I/O Open File.vi function with a read-only file will generate a file permission error. For example, the Open/Create/Replace File.VI uses the advanced function, Open File.VI.The reason for this is the open mode input on the Open File.VI. It defaults to a value of zero, which corresponds to labview error 8 "read and write." To open a read-only file, you need to change the open mode input to one (1), which corresponds to "read-only." Otherwise, you will get the file permission error. To solve the problem, you can open the block diagram of the high-level File I/O function, such as Open/Create/ReplaceFile.VI, and change the open mode input on the Open File.VI to a numeric constant of 1. If you created a constant or a control directly from the input terminal, select the "read-only" option from the drop-down menu. Make the same change if you are using only the Open File.VI and not a high-level File I/O function. For other solutions to Error 8, please see the links below.
