Hi, I have trouble with my VPN connection. I have laptop with Windows 7 error 809 big fish games Prof. 32bit + Wireless connection. Before Windows 7, I have on my Laptop Windows XP and VPN connection worked perfectly. VPN type is L2TP/IPSec and I have valid certificate. Every time, when I error 809 windows 10 want connect VPN connection in my remote location, respond with error 809 and this mean: ''The network connection between your computer and the VPN server could not be established because the remote server is not responding. OK guys i have a problem. i have setup a vpn, and it works just fine over PPTP, but when i try to connect via L2TP i get error 809... i have opened up / forwarded everyport error 809 vpn for VPN in general, and L2TP as far as i know... im just pulling my hair out now! It connects just fine via L2TP if i point to the server via the lan ip address... but whats the point of that, i want to connect via l2tp outside my lan! So it just looks like its a port that i need to open / forward. so far i have VPN pass through on PPTP, L2TP, IPsec all enabled 4500,500,50,51,1700-1723 all forwarded to the VPN server. yet when ever i try and connect via L2TP outside the lan i get "error 809" .... if i let it connect via PTPP it connects just fine, but i need L2TP. article!Update 2:Even more VPN grief - this time with Windows 8/8.1 Metro and PPTP. See this article for the solution to"Error 850: The Extensible Authentication Protocol type required..." For "security reasons" Microsoft somewhat broke the implementation for L2TP/IPSec (and in some cases PPTP) VPNs in Windows Vista/7/2008 R2. This was due to an architectural change made in these OS versions to disable NAT Traversal functionality for these protocols by default.This means that while your old XP machine or iPhone will connect, your brand new Windows 7 or 8 system will spin its wheels hopelessly and eventually error out. Strange, non-obvious and questionable default choice, in our opinion. You know you are likely experiencing this issue if you try to connect with L2TP and get errors numbers such as 800, 794 or 809.Thankfully you can bring back the old behaviour with a couple of changes: a registry key and a Hotfix.On your Windows Vista, 7 or 8 client machine change or add the following registry item:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\PolicyAgent\ New DWORD (32-bit) Value:AssumeUDPEncapsulationContextOnSendRule Set the value to 2This allows the client or server to be behind a NAT firewall.Reboot after making the change, and retry the connection.
