COMM Port 1 is being used for HotSync...and I don't http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,10052608 know how to install COMM Port 2.I do have PortMon already installed and when I try to run it, I get Run Error 997. Don't know what that means. I did try removing the files in the PortMon folder and extracted files from the ZIP I have saved on my external HDD...still get that error. I did download the NT version of PortMon...there was not one explicitly for XP, but assumed that the NT version since XP is running NT5.0 kernel, that it was okay.OH, I am connecting via USB cable...no serial cables came with the cradle, only USB. · actions · 2004-Apr-23 3:22 pm · CudniLa Merma - VigiladoMVMjoin:2003-12-20Someshirekudos:13 Cudni MVM 2004-Apr-23 3:29 pm see for that portmon err.»Re: [Help] Sysinternals page defrag won't run [XPDid you try different usb ports? WIN2K SP4 installed internal modem. My program can access the com port. This weekend I moved to a production machine (DELL 2650) with an external modem. http://www.verycomputer.com/5_d3313d97a045d6c6_1.htm My program cannot access the com port. Although, ProComm can. This leads me to believe I am accessing the COM port via a direct connection and a program like ProComm is using http://www.google.com/patents/US5555100 TAPI. I need to use the program I've devleoped so I need to figure out what is using the COM port. I've downloaded PortMon from SysInternals, but when I try to start error 997 it, it responses: "Error 997" Any throughts as to how I might proceed??? Thanks, Scott Top Serial Port Access Failure by Ian » Tue, 01 Jul 2003 21:01:56 Quote:>Any throughts as to how I might proceed??? There is an oldish SDK example terminal program that defintely uses direct port access, MTTY. It is part of an ancient SDK Tecnhical article called "Serial error 997 overlapped communications in Win32". Find and compile this. Does this work on the target? To do a real test make sure any handshaking is off, and local echo is off, and then short pins 2 and 3 of the serial port together (you can do this on the back end of any 9-pin to 9-pin serial cable, if you trust the cable, but best done right on the back of the PC). Do you see an echo? You could try "talking" to another machine that was running Hyperterminal but this is less reliable as handshaking and cable crossing can get in the way. What about on another machine altogether (not DELL, maybe a very standard white-box machine)? Ian Top Serial Port Access Failure by Hector Santo » Wed, 02 Jul 2003 06:28:07 How are you opening the port? with the CreateFile() command? Maybe the different machine is using a different port device name? Procomm can use TAPI or direct port device ("COM1", "COM2", etc). TAPI uses the TAPI API functions to initialize the TAPI device name, i.e., it doesn't use CreateFile() function which is required when going direct.
