Technology > When you got the error message "Error trying to access httpd.conf file" after installing PHP After installing PHP to Windows Server, creating a *.php file and input "" and open the link "http://localhost/*.php", if https://www.apachelounge.com/viewtopic.php?p=21483 you get a error message "Error trying to access httpd.conf file. You will need to manually configure the web server.", if is because you probably choose all the extensions when https://sites.google.com/site/danmiaoaustralia/WebTechnology/httpdconf-file-error you install PHP, actually each of the extension has a bunch of dependencies, when you choose it and install it, the installation process will check if the dependencies are satisfied, if there is one of the required dependencies is not matched, then you will get the above problem. The way to resolve it is easy, just reinstall PHP and reselect all the extensions which you are not sure if they have been installed. The problem will be resolved. Error trying to access httpd.conf https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/190766-error-trying-to-access-httpdconf-windows7/ @ Windows7 Started by SuperBlue, Feb 03 2010 09:11 AM Please log in to reply 3 replies to this topic #1 SuperBlue SuperBlue Advanced Member Members 306 posts Posted 03 February 2010 - 09:11 AM I'm using the MSI installer, and i get this error when installing.I've tried to alter the security settings for both httpd.conf and its directory, to "allow myself" to edit error accessing the file, which works when editing with notepad. However the MSI installer still seem to be blocked by windows, anyone knows whats going on?To be honest, i find it quite ridiculous that i even need to "allow myself" to edit the file, windows has become totally bloated with obsolete security features in later versions. I can edit my httpd.conf fine under Win 7 x.x.Are you installing it as an administrator and where are you installing it? Why doesn't anyone ever say hi, hey, or whad up world? Back to top #3 SuperBlue SuperBlue Advanced Member Members 306 posts Posted 04 February 2010 - 10:19 AM It wouldn't let me save the changes that i made to the file. It prompted me to save the file with a different file name, i then had to delete the original, and rename the file i saved. That was where i figured that i had to change the security settings of the file, and give my windows user account full access, (it was set to read only for some reason). Note that this account already has administrator rights, and is the only account present on the system, so it shouldn't be necessary in the first place. The reason you are able to edit the files, are likely because you didn't use the MSI Installers, which somewhat speeds up the process.
