object method" 8.5.4; "Error accessing product object method"; attempts to open mailfile; attempts to open mail file; users with editor access; mailfile Technote (troubleshooting) Problem Opening a mail file in Notes 8.5.3 sometimes returns "Error accessing product object method". Clicking OK closes the error message and the mail file opens. However, the error occurs again once the mail file is closed and then reopened. Note: This error can also occur when opening the To Do or Calendar views. Cause This issue is known to occur if the user is assigned Editor access to their mail file. Resolving the problem This issue is fixed in 8.5.3 Fix Pack 1 and 9.0. Fix details: SPR# RHAN8N9JHZ - Fixes "Error Accessing Product Object Method" message on Mailfile Open when user is limited to Editor access. This regression was introduced in 8.5.3 Workaround for 8.5.3 Temporarily grant the user Manager access to their mail file. While the user has Manager access, they will need to open their mail file and then close it. After doing that once, the error will no longer occur and the user's access to their mail file can be reverted back to Editor. "Find a room at a specific time" search "Error accessing product object method"; resource reservation; resources; reserving; room; domain; different domains; find room; "Find a room at a specific time" Technote (FAQ) Question From the Resource Reservations database of DomainA, a user in DomainB receives the following error message when making a reservation: "Error accessing product object method" The issue occurs only when you manually http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21571238 create a reservation in a Reservations database that is in a different Domain than the one your Location document is configured with and if you choose the "Find a room at a specific time" option. Answer This issue has been reported to Quality Engineering as SPR# KUMA5VCMGR and fixed in Domino 6.5.6 http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21206924 and Domino 7. Refer to the Upgrade Central site for details on upgrading Notes/Domino. Excerpt from the Lotus Notes and Domino Release 6.5.6 MR fix list (available at http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/lotus): Calendaring & Scheduling SPR# KUMA5VCMGR - Fixed an error message when using the "find available room at specific time" search in a cross-domain environment. To work around the issue in earlier releases, you can use the option "Find a time for a specific room." Another workaround to consider is modifying the New Reservation form. The New Reservation form has six Search buttons. The formulas for the first two Search buttons needs to be modified as follows to prevent the error: First Search button modified formula: @If(StartTime >= EndTime; @Return(@Prompt([Ok]; "Error"; "Start time should be prior to End time."));""); REM {make Capacity non required field}; tmpCapacity:=@If(Capacity=""; 1; Capacity); @Command([ViewRefreshFields]); @If((@Date(StartDate) < @Date(@Now)); @Return(@Prompt([Ok];"Error";"You cannot reserve a room for a date which has already occurred."));""); Keyarg:="CN=*/"+"O="+Site; ResNameCheck:=@FindFreeResource(Keyarg;ResourceType;StartDateTime;EndDateTime;tmpCapacity;50); @If(@IsError(ResNameCheck);@Return(@Pro

This, of course, is the error "Error Accessing Product Object Method". Users see it when they open their mail files using an R8.5.3 client on an R8.5.2 server. I can fix it with code so that the error doesn't show when you open the mail file, but some users still see it when they go to their mail preferences. I'd love to have some code to tell me if the problem is going to happen on a given mail file. That would at least limit the risk and we could focus on a solution and not worry about every single mail file potentially. IBM's solution is to bump all the users up to Designer, but that's going to happen. Grrrr.... -Andy PS: Grrrr....
