(Here's why: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/589482/please-wait-after-lock-screen/) Anyway, one of the items I backed up to my Western Digital My Passport Ultra (recognized as the F drive) before re-installingwas Software.reg. When double clicking to merge, an error message pops up saying: "Cannot import F:\Software.reg: Error accessing the registry." If someone could help me in getting this item to merge, it would be wonderful. Sincerely, Dylan Knowles Edited by CaveStoryKing64, 26 September 2015 - 05:26 PM. So, he created me a new profile. However, now I've lost my PuTTY and WinSCP configurations because they are stored in the registry. I figured out how to load a hive from my old profile and exported the WinSCP and PuTTY branches. However, I can't merge them to the registry; I get an "Error accessing the registry" message. I have administrator privileges and can access the registry via regedit. Why can't I merge the exports that came from the same machine? Thanks! EDIT Here's a snippet of the putty.reg file that I exported from the registry after converting it to ASCII: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_USERS\SimonTatham\Software\SimonTatham] [HKEY_USERS\SimonTatham\Software\SimonTatham\PuTTY] [HKEY_USERS\SimonTatham\Software\SimonTatham\PuTTY\Jumplist] "Recent sessions"=hex(7):63,00,73,00,70,00,32,00,74,00,68,00,31,00,6e,00,6f,00,\ 20,00,28,00,70,00,72,00,6f,00,64,00,29,00,00,00,74,00,68,00,32,00,2e,00,6e,\ 00,6f,00,2e,00,63,00,67,00,2e,00,6e,00,6d,00,73,00,2e,00,6d,00,6c,00,62,00,\ 2e,00,69,00,6e,00,65,00,74,00,20,00,28,00,70,00,72,00,6f,00,64,00,29,00,00,\ 00,74,00,68,00,32,00,2e,00,6e,00,6f,00,2e,00,63,00,67,00,2e,00,6c,00,61,00,\ 62,00,2e,00,6e,00,6d,00,73,00,2e,00,6d,00,6c,00,62,00,2e,00,69,00,6e,00,65,\ 00,74,00,20,00,28,00,6c,00,61,00,62,00,29,00,00,00,73,00,63,00,6d,00,32,00,\ 2e,00,6e,00,6f,00,2e,00,63,00,67,00,2e,00,6e,00,6d,00,73,00,2e,00,6d,00,6c,\ 00,62,00,2e,00,69,00,6e,00,65,00,74,00,00,00,63,00,73,00,70,00,31,00,74,00,\ 68,00,31,00,7a,00,7a,00,20,00,28,00,6c,00,61,00,62,00,29,00,00,00,63,00,73,\ 00,70,00,32,00,74,00,68,00,31,00,73,00,6f,00,20,00,28,00,70,00,72,00,6f,00,\ 64,00,29,00,00,00,74,00,68,00,31,00,2e,00,6e,00,6f,00,2e,00,63,00,67,00,2e,\ 00,6e,00,6d,00,73,00,2e,00,6d,00,6c,00,62,00,2e,00,69,00,6e,00,65,00,74,00,\ 20,00,28,00,70,00,72,00,6f,00,64,00,29,00,00,00,74,00,68,00,31,00,2e,00,6e,\ 00,6f,00,2e,00,63,00,67,00,2e,00,6c,00,61,00,62,00

Join Now Hi Guys, Having some issues importing a reg file into http://www.windowstechinfo.com/2013/07/solved-cannot-import-to-registry-not.html the registry on a Windows Server 2008R2 box. To give some background i took a full backup of the registry before beginning to make changes in line with CIS hardening requirements. Then i needed to test a web application on the server after each change to see if this broke the app at all. We have run into error accessing some issues and need to revert the changes, however as the title suggests i am presented with this error. I have so far tried importing the file as admin by opening regedit.exe as administrator, copying the file to a trusted location for example %systemroot%/Windows/System32 and importing from here, and also changing the ownership of the file to that of the administrator account we use on the server. So far no luck at error accessing the all. The server is virtual so there may be a possibility of reverting to a earlier snapshot however i am not too sure how long our service provider keep snap shots for so this may not be possible and i would rather find a manual fix if there is one due to time constraints. Anyone have any ideas or solutions to this? I doubt that is possible with a powered on machine because so much of it is in use. If you want to backup/restore the entire registry at once you would probably need

"Not all data was successfully written to the registry. some keys are open by the system or other process, or you have insufficient privileges to perform this operation" Posted on July 28, 2013 /Under Windows 7 /With 10 Comments [wp_ad_camp_1]Error occurred while trying to add/import a registry key file "Not all data was successfully written to the registry. some keys are open by the system or other process, or you have insufficient privileges to perform this operation" Not all data was successfully written to the registry. some keys are open by the system or other process, or you have insufficient privileges to perform this operation As the error message indicates("some keys are open by the system or other process, or you have insufficient privileges to perform this operation"), it is due to lack of permission and/or the registry value is in use.. Solution for Cannot import to registry error (Note:This method is for importing a registry key, or few keys, its not intended to import whole registry backup Which usually not a good idea at all !! ) To bypass "Cannot import to registry" error and force add the registry value, follow the below, steps [wp_ad_camp_2] Download pstools (PSTools.zip) from http://technet.microsoft.com Then extract PSTools.zip it in to a folder.. open a command prompt run as administrator (1)Then change directory to the location where you have extracted the PSTools.zip (Mine it is C:\Users\araa\Desktop\PSTools ) (2) open registry editor with psexec with following parameters.. -s -i -d The command should be psexec -s -i
