Join Now Hi Guys, Having some issues importing a reg file into the registry on a Windows Server 2008R2 box. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-files/cannot-import-registry-file-getting-error-cannot/1bd7f5fd-e37e-e011-9b4b-68b599b31bf5 To give some background i took a full backup of the registry before beginning to make changes in line with CIS hardening requirements. Then i needed to test a web application on the server after each change to see if this broke the app at all. We have run into some issues and need to revert the changes, however as the title suggests i am presented with this error. I have so far tried importing the file as admin by opening regedit.exe as administrator, https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/1158392-error-accessing-the-registry-windows-server-2008-r2 copying the file to a trusted location for example %systemroot%/Windows/System32 and importing from here, and also changing the ownership of the file to that of the administrator account we use on the server. So far no luck at all. The server is virtual so there may be a possibility of reverting to a earlier snapshot however i am not too sure how long our service provider keep snap shots for so this may not be possible and i would rather find a manual fix if there is one due to time constraints. Anyone have any ideas or solutions to this? I doubt that is possible with a powered on machine because so much of it is in use. If you want to backup/restore the entire

I saved the .reg files so that I could restore those files in the event that I had issues after having used the program. (disclaimer: I'm no computer wiz, but I have grown up w/ computers since the internet was around so I'm not a total dummy either). I've read through the help section on Piriform and it error accessing the seems pretty straight forward. Locate the .reg file that were saved and double click to restore them. But when I do I get an error message X Registry Editor: Cannot import C:\Users\Nancy\Documents\CCleaners Registry Backups\cc_2013038_170248.reg: Error accessing the registry.I ran the registry cleaner, then I did the cleaner, and to be thorough I reran the registry cleaner. So I have two .reg files saved. (maybe I shouldn't have done it twice?) anyway, I'm running windows 7, not sure what other info I should include. I would really love to get some advice / guidance from a more knowledgeable user if possible. Thanks in advance Edited by Nergal, 30 March 2013 - 07:18 PM.
