Ashampoo is the better of the two you listed so that is what I'd suggest you use unless you don't like it for some reason. Also, when enabling/disabling a firewall always follow that with a reboot or in some cases your action will not be "active". Also verify your firewall permissions as stated in this http://free.avg.com/ww.faq.num-1334. The following will help with routing table issues... 1. Turn off the computer. 2. Turn off any router or hub that your computer may be plugged into. 3. Turn off the cable/dsl modem. 4. Wait for a couple of minutes. 5. Turn on the cable/dsl modem. 6. AVG antivirus error When trying to install the free AVG antivirus I received the following computer error: Error: Action failed for registry key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows: creating registry key http://mycomputerdidwhat.blogspot.com/2009/08/error-action-failed-for-registry-key.html After some research it seems to be a permission problem ,to solve this do the following: Click Start ,Run and then type regedit and then OK. Now navigate to that key in the registry ,start http://forums.majorgeeks.com/index.php?threads/avg-uninstall-error-0x80070005-have-virus-but-cannot-uninstall-install-avg.209679/ at the top left side and click to expand the keys one by one. Starting with HKLM (which is short for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.) And then Software ,Microsoft ,Windows NT ,CurrentVersion ,Windows. On the Windows key right error action click it and choose the option permissions. On the permissions tab click on the Advanced button near the bottom right. On the Advanced menu make sure all the users are set to Allow and not Deny ,if they are set to deny then select that user and click on Edit ,then click and mark the full control checkbox. Restart the computer and AVG will now install. If you get error action failed an access denied error when trying to change these settings then the best would be start the system in Safe Mode and then log in with the administrator account and try the steps from there. Change your current antivirus to Panda Antivirus Pro 2010 and forget these problems. Free trial period too :) Posted by Fabio the computer guy at 3:56 PM Labels: antivirus, computer solutions, windows xp Reactions: 11 comments: shopping cart said... you have actually solved another my problem, i was also trying the same thing. i prefer your post! Uninstall Error 0x80070005" Have Virus But Cannot Uninstall/Install AVG. Discussion in 'Software' started by Wuf4Wds, Feb 4, 2010. Wuf4Wds Private E-2 I tried upgrading from the free AVG 8.5 to free AVG 9.0. During the installation phase, something failed. I dumblike presumed that 8.5 was still operating correctly and that I would figure out the 9.0 thing later. Apparently I was very wrong. I have some sort of virus(es) that are sending out emails from me that are not from me--well, not intentionally anyway. I tried to disable AVG and while it no longer appears in the tray (with the clock), it is still running under the task manager. I cannot stop the process from running. I've tried stopping each individual AVG process and via the stop the process tree for each individual AVG process. Nothing works. The processes continue to run. I downloaded and ran Avira. It found two programs...bumblebee and something else. While it was waiting for me to tell it to "repair," more emails came through. I realize the virus issue should be discussed on a different forum and did start a thread. (However, my thread asked about how to stop the virus from spreading via email while I am in the midst of fixing it.) At the very least, I need to uninstall AVG. However, it will not uninstall. I cannot install the newer version. What do I do? The AVG free support forum is a waste of time when it comes to getting assistance. If I need to put this info with my original post on the malware forum, please let me know. Since I have so many separate but related issues, I'm not sure where I should be posting. Thanks for the help and so sorry for all the trouble! Oh, the error message I receive when trying to uninstall AVG is listed below. I've tried via the AVG uninstall and through Add/Remove Programs. My computer is running WindowsXP, SP2. I feel as though I am not posting correctly. Please advise.
