failed for registry key Posted on Thursday January, 22 2009 | 25 Comments The error message is: Local machine: installation failed Installation: Error: Action failed for registry key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows: creating registry key.... Error 0x80070005 The fix action is to log as the administrator, go to the registry using regedit Navigate to 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows" key and right click to check the permissions ensure your administrator login has full https://forums.avg.com/us-en/avg-forums?sec=thread&act=show&id=88957 security and permission rights to this folder. More than likely if you're receiving this AVG install error it does not and you will need to add your administrator user. NOTE: If you receive error messages stating you don't have rights to add users. Please check out our NTFS guide here. As you http://www.copyrunstart.net/quick-fix-avg-antivirus-80-error-message-error-action-failed-for-registry-key/ will need to go to the advanced menu and take ownership of the key first, before adding security rights. 25 CommentsLeave a comment Ed → March 20th, 2009 How do I ‘navigate to' the key? Can't find it in the regedit suggested. admin → http://www.copyrunstart.net March 24th, 2009 Good catch! In Registry Editor go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows”. We changed the abbreviation in the article from "HKLM" to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" Thanks for reading! AVG antivirus error When trying to install the free AVG antivirus I received the following computer error: Error: Action failed for registry key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows: creating registry key After some research it seems to http://mycomputerdidwhat.blogspot.com/2009/08/error-action-failed-for-registry-key.html be a permission problem ,to solve this do the following: Click Start ,Run and https://forums.techguy.org/threads/solved-new-free-avg-will-not-install.710002/ then type regedit and then OK. Now navigate to that key in the registry ,start at the top left side and click to expand the keys one by one. Starting with HKLM (which is short for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.) And then Software ,Microsoft ,Windows NT ,CurrentVersion ,Windows. On the Windows key right click it and choose the option permissions. On the permissions error action tab click on the Advanced button near the bottom right. On the Advanced menu make sure all the users are set to Allow and not Deny ,if they are set to deny then select that user and click on Edit ,then click and mark the full control checkbox. Restart the computer and AVG will now install. If you get an access denied error when trying to change these settings then the best would be start error action failed the system in Safe Mode and then log in with the administrator account and try the steps from there. Change your current antivirus to Panda Antivirus Pro 2010 and forget these problems. I did a computer search and deleted everything avg and still get this idiotic error. "Action failed for registry key HKLMSOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionWindows: creating registry key....Error 0x80070005" I followed these instructions 1. Download & save the latest AVG Free installation package from [free.grisoft.com] 2. Run the AVG Free install file 3. Choose the Uninstall option and follow the setup wizard, when you get to the part to remove user settings, select it. 4. Restart your computer then... 5. Now reinstall AVG using the setup file you got in step 1 and update it. It will not install, people tell me I should be seeing a : the Remove user', then reboot and start the download again....I have been fighting with this for 2 days and am feeling a bit stoopid. What am I missing? I have the file saved to desktop, I even redid that in case my download was corrupted...notta.. green_sleeves, May 5, 2008 #1 Sponsor Stephen_A Joined: Mar 23, 2006 Messages: 149 I don't know how confident you are tweaking the registry, but it seems you have glitch there. I strongly advise against registry adjustment without extreme caution and a registry backup and a restore point. So a harmless thing to try would be to clean up the registry using Regseeker which you can get here. http://www.snapfiles.com/get/regseeker.html Then try to install AVG again.
