service the C:31 code, Sony recommends you do the following:Turn off the camcorder.Remove the battery or disconnect the AC power adapter for 60 seconds.Insert the battery or reconnect the AC adapter.Turn on the camcorder. If the error message appears, service may be required. If your camcorder still shows the same error code, then you'll have to send in your camcorder for service. Chieh Cheng Wed Jan 26 17:35:05 PST 2005 I had this error message on my TRV16e. sony camcorder error code c31 23 It only happened on one tape (mostly) and there was no way this tape would play. Played Ok in another machine though. I get paranoid now every time I put a tape in waiting for the beep beep noise. Pete Sun, 19 Jun 2005 15:13:40 -0700 I don't know what the heck it is but is seems to come up when I don't use it for a while then I try to go immedeatly to the VCR function. Then I can't use it at all. I have never had the code when I pick it up and go directly to record mode??? I dunno. I also have the trc250 Ryan Wed, 10 Aug 2005 12:40:06 -0700 This may seem silly, but it worked for me. I found this on another discussion forum. Try smacking the side of the camera relatively hard with the palm of your hand. Eject the tape and reinsert. You may need to do this a couple of times. Surprisingly it worked for me.. Debbie Sat, 13 Aug 2005 11:38:25 -0700 I just turned the camcorder on its side and hit rewind. It seemed to go away.Maybe the gears are getting worn. my son's first Motocross race. I decided it would be cool to video tape his first race, since sony handycam reinsert cassette error the way my nerves were that day it might have been his last race. Anyway I proceded to video tape his holeshot with my Sony DCR-TRV250 I c:31:40 have had this camera a while but really only used it a couple of times. All of a sudden I got a small arrow type icon similar to the eject icon, and the error code c31.23. What a crappy thing to have happen while it http://www.camerahacker.com/Forums/DisplayComments.php?file=Video%20Camera/Sony/Sony_DCR-TRV18_-_Error_Code. was a milestone of my sons racing career.Well I manage to find a quick fix, the technical tap or rather smack. In my frustrations I smacked the camera pretty hard and low and behold it worked. Well it was a big pain to wack my camera all the time, so it pretty much retired to its bag. Where I did not pull it out very often except to see if it by some miracle was working normal again.Today I decided to throw it on the charger and try to see http://wvstephens.blogspot.com/2008/05/sony-handycam-c3123-3123-error-easy-fix.html if I could find a fix, and I found this Thread after alot of reading about how everyone wacks their handycam, I found a post from a user named Meredith. The suggestion was to open the tape deck of the camera and look to the right. Below are the steps to follow.Open tape deck, make sure there is not a tape in it....About midway back there is a black rubber roller in the middle of 2 metal guides. In the center of this black roller you should see a white plastic tube, this is a bushing to allow the roller to move with out wobbling. If you do not see this white tube yours has fallen out, so the search for a new one begins. Don't freak out a straw for a can of compressed air will work, or from a can of WD-40 will aswell. Simply push the new straw firmly into the center of the black roller. If you see the straw take a small flat head screwdriver and press down on the top of the bushing firmly, I heard a click but you may not it just depends. Anyway this should fix the problem it did mine, and I am happy one my camera works and two I am smarter than Sony :)Note if this does not fix the problem your bushing may be cracked find a pair of needle nose pliers and pull out the old bushing and replace it using the straw from a can of compressed air.I hope this fixed your Sony Handycam 31.23 error code, now you are free to archive your lifes great adve

You may be asking yourself. Did I do something wrong? Can I fix it myself? Is my camcorder really broken? The answer to this is simple. If your Sony camcorder displays a tape transport or mechanical error code always try resetting the camcorder. This is done by removing the battery or ac power, wait 10 seconds, reapply the battery or ac power and try again. If it still goes into error try another tape. The camcorder will not always display an exact error code. Sometimes you may see an error message such as, “Reinsert the cassette", on the LCD screen. This is the camcorders way of saying, “Take the tape out and try again." Try reloading the same tape as well as a new tape. If the camcorder is still going into error this means it is time to send it in for service or repair. The camcorder may also sometimes display a “Reattach Power Source." This is the camcorders way of saying,"Try resetting my system,so I can try again." Many people mistaken this error and think they have a problem with the battery or ac adapter. This is not true and has nothing to do with your battery or ac adapter. Reset the camcorder by removing the battery or ac power, wait 10 second, reapply the battery or ac power. If the error reappears the unit needs to be serviced or repaired. Here is a list of Sony error codes for mechanical problems, tape transport problems and lens or focus problems.
