Back when my machine was running Vista and Expression 2.0, I remember having problems with wtv files in Expression because of Dolby Digital AC3, which I was able to solve by installing AC3Filter.However, I was under the impression that Expression Encoder 3 added support for Dolby Digital/AC3, thus making AC3Filter (or other such solutions) un-necessary. I'll do this as a work around for now. Marked as answer by Oop Oop Tuesday, August 11, 2009 8:37 PM Tuesday, August 11, 2009 8:22 PM Reply | Quote All replies 0 Sign in to vote Same problem here. I use Microsoft Expression Encoder to encode https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/expression/en-US/ddc493c7-ea04-43f5-95b4-1285f26fa489/missing-ac3-codec-in-expression-encoder-3?forum=encoder MKV files to WMV-HD files. I've been having problems, though, and was told by support that Expression doesn't support two-pass encoding with AC3Filter and to find another decoder. I can't find one, at least that works. I'm not even very good with this stuff, either, so I don't know exactly WHAT I'm looking for. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I'm not looking to change encoding programs, either, just find another http://forum.videohelp.com/threads/336241-Need-new-non-AC3Filter-AC3-decoder-from-Expression-Encoder decoder. Thanks. Never used ffdshow so not sure if there are any settings I need to fool around with. Whenever I load an AC3-containing MKV into Expression, it was "Error: audio codec not present" or something of that nature. It doesn't do that with AC3Filter. Select codec (top left), select ac3 and set the decoder to liba52. Also on the left, select "mixer" and check the settings. For the install options, I chose only to install the default VFW interface that it has ticked, and left out D

Your mplayer wasn't compiled with ac3 support. Do you have the error cannot find SuSE package? Try to install a different package or compile mplayer from source. The ac3 codec is included in the source tarball and enabled by default. -- What difference does it make to the dead, the orphans and the homeless, whether the mad destruction is wrought under the name of totalitarianism or the holy name of liberty or democracy?
