I keep getting messages that BOINC "can't resolve host name". Anyone have any ideas how to fix this? Everything seems to be working ok. Maybe not? Yes, I have been getting work fine, was just getting random messages about the host name. It looks like it is starting to work correctly, even is attributing to the correct alliance now as well.ID: 1554 · Rating: 0 · rate: / DagorathSendmessage Joined: 30 Jan 13Posts: 38Credit: 226,628RAC: 0 Message 1644 - Posted: 19 Sep 2013, 7:13:45 UTC - in response to Message 1554. In a networking context "Can't resolve..." usually translates to "Can't find the IP address for...". In your case BOINC can't find the IP address for "hostname" but error messages are frequently misleading. Those messages might actually mean "Can't resolve the project's URL". That usually means your computer has requested the IP address for one of your projects but the server that is supposed to have that address doesn't have it. That is not your computer's fault, it's an upstream problem you have no control over and it can come and go unpredictably. There is another possible explanation. I see you have two hosts attached to this project. It is possible to connect BOINC Manager running on host A to the BOINC Client on host B if they are both connected to your home network. There are two slightly different ways to do that: 1) supply host B's IP address to BOINC Manager running on host A 2) supply host B's hostname to BOINC manager running on host A Method 1 will never (should never) give you the "Can't resolve hostname
