I have managed to get syntax highlighting to work properly for these files by adding a *.tpl entry in Preferences -> General -> Editors -> Content Types. However this does not seem to also enable syntax error checking

/ validation. So to be clear, I would like Eclipse to show me per-line errors in the editor and also indicate any errors/warnings on the files in the PHP Explorer - for files with a .tpl extension. Currently neither is happening. I have tried also adding *.tpl to Preferences -> General -> Editors -> File Associations. I have tried pressing F5 in various relevant places, and have tried restarting Eclipse. The folder with the *.tpl files is a subdirectory of a source folder. Other subdirectories of this source folder are working correctly (although they have .php files). I don't know what else to do. Please help! Thanks! php eclipse validation file-type syntax-checking share|improve this question edited Aug 20 '12 at 13:32 Mihai Iorga 28.1k105479 asked Aug 20 '12 at 13:29 Pryo 445518 +1 for trying out everything I could think of off the top of my head. Does such thing exist? php eclipse ide syntax-checking share|improve this question asked Jul 14 '11 at 9:43 Junba Tester 1701411 add a comment| 6 Answers 6 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote Every better IDE (PhpStorm, Eclipse/PDT, Eclipse/PHPEclipse, Netbeans with PHP-Plugin, and so http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6691234/php-compiler-or-syntax-checker on) comes with automatic syntax check built-in. At least PhpStorm is able to find undefined variables. The last time I used PDT it didn't support it. PHPEclipse seems to be not maintained anymore, so I assume, that it cannot find undefined variables too, and netbeans ... don't know. If you just want to check the syntax the quick&dirty way, you can use the php-interpreter itself php -l filename.php share|improve this answer answered Jul 14 '11 at 9:53 KingCrunch 70.7k12104139 add a comment| up vote 1 down vote Of course, look on this: http://www.eclipse.org/pdt/ This IDE using php parser engine to syntax, and is for free :-). But, better do not use the plugin version from update site, but All-In-One Package. At least previous versions from update site did not work too well... share|improve this answer answered Jul 14 '11 at 9:56 wojand 1374 This should be the marked answer. –Markus Jan 28 at 11:27 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote Install phpEclipse for syntax-checking: http://www.phpeclipse.com/ share|improve this answer answered Jul 14 '11 at 9:50 Dolphin 14819 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote In PHP there is no such thing as an undefined variable. Variables are automatically initialized with null. share|improve this answer answered Jul 1
