An error occurred in the carriage encoder signal". Let's march down the troubleshooting path and look at probable solutions and how to reset Canon error error 5100 canon ip2770 code 5100. The first thing that you should do with a printer error of any type is try to reset the Canon MP printer. Occasionally an error code is a matter of a crossed signal between the Canon ink jet printer http://community.usa.canon.com/t5/Printer-Multifunction-Support/what-is-error-5100-for-multifunction-printeers-and-how-do-you/td-p/6131 and the computer. Rebooting the Canon pixma printer might fix the problem with no more fuss. 1) Clear debris from carriage head to eliminate canon error 5100 Open the Canon printer and look closely for any debris such as small pieces of paper or dirt lodged inside. If such debris is found, remove it, plug Canon pixma back in and see if error code has cleared. 2) Lubricate the purge cap If the Canon printer has excess dirt or dust you can http://www.mytechtime.com/2011/10/canon-error-5100-how-to-fix.html use a damp lint free paper towel to gently clean the Canon printer. Once device is cleaned plug it back in and see if error 5100 has cleared. If cleaning and clearing the device does not work then you may need to lubricate the purge cap.The purge cap is the sliding mechanism that the printer head parks into when it is not in use. To lubricate it you will need to remove the right panel from the devise. Once the panel is removed rub a little white grease along the sliders while taking care not to get any grease on the small wipers or the black caps. Once this is done, replace the panel, plug devise back in and see if the error 5100 has cleared. 3) Paper Jammed Odds are greatest a rogue piece of paper has nested itself in like a rat in a haystack. The solution is to remove all ink cartridges and hit it with canned air, or any other filtered air blower. 4) Set the ink cartridges properly Less likely, and yet still possible is your ink cartridges need to be re-seated. If you follow the step above, after cleaning you'll be re-seated the cartridges anyway. 5) Clean the Timing film The timing film is a thin piece of plastic which runs across the width of the devise below the drive belt. It has fine vertical lines running along it and if it becomes dirty then your printer will display a
greatly diminished. Thought I had a bum color cartridge, so I replaced with a new one, but the problem continued. I have been randomly getting a service error 5100, which instructs me to turn the printer off, then back on http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/posts/42085 again, but don't know if this has anything to do with my color problems. Any idea how to fix? Tried gently cleaning inside the machine and noticed alot of extra ink to the right side where the cartridges sit. Any help would http://ugp01.c-ij.com/ij/webmanual/ErrorCode/MX470%20series/EN/ERR/5100.html be greatly appreciated. Respond to this 1 that guys solution fixed mine man by Anonymous on Sep 4, 2007 at 6:14pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 As a technician, I have worked on tons of printers. This particular error error code had stumped me for a while, but I finally found the cause. As others had pointed out before, it can have alot to do with some obstruction in the print path, the gears, or ink on the clear plastic encoder strip. You're on the right track - I found the the purge cap (the white sliding mechanism that the print head parks to when it's not in use) was not lubricated well enough from factory. If you lubricate the sliders with some white grease (don't error code 5100 get it on the small wipers or the black caps) the mechanism can now slide more freely, and the unit can park the head properly without giving you the dreaded head homing error 5100 (or E-2-2 on the LCD display) Keep in mind that this repair will probably require you to remove the right panel off of the printer to gain access to the purge mechanism. There are two screws behind the printer, and two in front for each corrosponding side panel (the front screws are behind the grey front panel of the printer - open the top cover to see the clips which hold the front cover on) Hope this helps some of you out.Wayne Lischynski - Ebytes Computers[emailprotected] by lischynski on May 15, 2007 at 11:19am Add comment Please sign in to comment I had the same error at Pixma iP5200, after cleaning the web from waste ink tank and resetting. It printed 50 sheets and after that I received that error code. After I saw your post here, I finnaly realized that was not a probleam of greasing but the little spring that rise the lever that block print head was in a bad position. I remediated that and work now fine. Thanks a lot for that idea. Note that I've cleaned the web from waste ink tank after more than 200.000(!) sheets printed on "fast" especially, and more than 3 litters of INKTEC black ink used only with the initial 5 ink tanks from Canon. Very go
If the problem is not resolved, contact the service center. Important When you clear the jammed paper or protective material that is preventing the FINE cartridge holder from moving, be careful not to touch the components inside the machine. The machine may not print out properly if you touch it. If you disconnect the power plug, all the faxes stored in the machine's memory are deleted. Page top © Canon Inc. 2014
