around the stereo and AC had been removed (aswell as the AC controlls) and since my CD player would not work in my Firebird I thought I would take this one... so I did when I finally got around to messing with it I plugged the 02 stereo into my car and it had the same issue... E20... and it spit the CD back out (which was better than keeping it I suppose) well I did some googeling and realized that E20 ment the cd player could not focus on the CD that was inserted into it... HRMM... why not?!? common sense says its dirty... so I took out the screws holding the CD player into the stereo... there are 2 on the back (T10s) and 1 on the side and one on the top (both smaller than T10) and undid the wire harness that was pluged into the CD player itself... I gave it a good once over... found the lense... it looked fine... but I gave it a good blow to make sure it wasnt just dusty... put the 02 stereo back together... pluged it up... and sure enough the dern thing worked... no more E20... CODES CHECKED IT COST ME 75.00$. FOR THAT AMOUNT I HAVE A DOWN PAYMENT FOR A NEW CD PLAYER.. isaiahshan11-18-2004, 07:50 AMThat code means that http://www.firebirdnation.com/forums/topic/450972-e20-error-fix-;/ is not scanning properly because the eye needs to be adjusted. It will need to go the the dealer to have it fixed. The same thing happened to my Grand Prix. I just went to a salvage yard and got another. They let me try it out before I bought it http://www.automotiveforums.com/t318857-error_code_e20_on_cd_player.html and it worked perfectly. (it was in even better condition than the broke one) WRBsGTP11-18-2004, 07:51 AMI'm not positive, but I think it means that your CD player is overheating. Same thing happened to a friend who went to the dealer, and I think that's what they told her. an error code of E20, this error occurs as soon as I place the CD in the player. I does not matter whether the CD is burned or one that was bought at the store. Any help would be greatly appreciated. http://en.allexperts.com/q/Audio-Systems-835/E20-error-cd-player.htm AnswerThis is a general error code that is telling you the player is defective. It can be caused by a weak laser diode inside the optical pickup of the player, a defective digital converter, a defective drive mechanism or just a badly misaligned optical pickup. Sometimes a reset will bring it back to life. To reset it you must remove power from the unit for 15 to 20 minutes. But doing so will remove error code the theft code as well (if your set has the anti-theft feature - most new cars do) and so don't do this unless you have the code written down somewhere so you can enter it when the set is powered up again. To remove power you must disconnect the wires that feed the set, or remove it from the car temporarily or pull the 12v cable off the battery in the engine compartment. Normally, the error code e20 cost of repair is quite high and unless the unit is a relatively new and quite expensive player you are most likely to be better off just replacing the unit with a new one. I know that isn't what you wanted to hear but that is the reality of the situation.
