Here the Canon proceedure for fixing it!DESCRIPTION: 5 Alternating Blinks (SFP) / ##356 (MFP) - ASF Cam Sensor ErrorSOLUTION(S): Adjust the Screws & Main Case UnitMovement (i.e. from shipping) may cause the plastic guide to move away from the canon printer error code 6000 chassis. When thisoccurs, the gears cannot rotate properly causing a grinding noise and 5 alternating blinks (SFP) or ##356(MFP) - ASF Cam Sensor Error.ProceduresStep 1: Remove the Left and Right Covers and the Main Case Unit (main cover).Step 2: Remove the 4 mounting screws from the Chassis.Step 3: Remove the Main Unit from the Bottom Case.Step 4: Turn the Main Unit over (upside down) and place on work surface. Step 5: Inspect the ASF section of the Main Unit for a gap between the white plastic guide and the Chassis. Note: The size of the gap varies. Even if the gap is not visible, complete the stepsbelow.Step 6: Disconnect the appropriate cables and remove the Logic Board from the Chassis.Step 7: Loosen (do not remove) the 4 mounting screws (the mounting screws can be found behind thelogic board) on the Chassis.Step 8: Re-seat the white plastic guide so it sits flush against the Chassis. The tip of the white plasticguide should sit slightly inside themounting screw hole. When seated correctly, the gap will no longer be present.Step 9: Tighten the 4 mounting screws withoutcausing the plastic guide to shift.Step 10: Reassemble the printer and retest. by BAB on Aug 17, 2007 at 2:03am Add comment Please sign in to comment Hello.... Where do I error code find the 4 mounting screws to remove from them the chassis - and if I'm successful with that, is it worth to try to fix the problem or chuck the thing all together? According to the service manual, which is found here, error 5700 means ASF cam sensor error, see pages 10/64 and 4/64 to 6/64 inclusive. The error might be caused by a scrap of paper. The service manual is found on a server, that seems located in Botswana, and that might only be online during business hours. Time zone of Botswana = GMT + 2 hours. The server is often down, so if you get a time out error, try again later. To get access to the printer chassis you will have to remove the scanner part before removing the rest of printer enclosure, not an easy task. Here a Canon MP830 is disassembled for absorber cleaning, It is not the same printer, but you might get some inspiration. Some newer Canon printers have the chassis secured to the bottom of the casing by 6 screws instead of 4. Here is an instruction in German for disassembling a Canon iP4600/4700 for absorber change, and here is a Google translation to English. I think the print engine in the MX860 is the iP3600 which is mechanically similar to the iP4600, so this instruction might be useful to locate the well hidden screws. Here is an image from the service manual showing the location of the ASF cam sensor: I hope this helps. PeterBJ, Apr 6, 2014 #2 jimbo123, stratman and The Hat like this.
