Department have multiple monitors. Most of our users connect to a full desktop in Citrix. We had no problem shadowing our users in the old environment but in the new environment we get an error. I understand http://support.citrix.com/article/CTX125693 the reason for this problem is a change in how Windows 2008 R2 supports Multiple Monitors. I know this is by design according to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2484290 but the work around is not acceptable. The issue we have with the work around is that it is more time consuming and requires the user be able to accept the support request invitation. We frequently need to shadow a user when they are not at their desk, https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/1ef69eca-6665-4753-8bb7-83e040b4363c/shadow-failed-error-code-7044-and-120-with-multiple-monitors-and-windows-server-2008-r2?forum=winserverTS or their Citrix session is locked up. Does anyone have a better solution or any idea whenMicrosoft will find a fix for Shadowing? There have been no announcements to add support for this in a future service pack/hotfix. My guess is that support for it will not be added to Server 2008 R2. In Server 2012 the remote control/shadowing feature no longer exists. I am working on possible solutions/workarounds and when I have more information I will update this thread. It is possible that my suggestions will help you with Server 2008 R2 multi-mon shadowingas well. -TP Marked as answer by LawSuppo

The latest version error code of the Citrix Receiver can be found on the Citrix website or by following the link below: http://www.citrix.com/lang/English/lp/lp_2309126.asp?ntref=DLpromo1a However after checking the apple clients to make sure they were on the latest version of the Citrix Receiver compared to the Citrix website I could confirm the receiver was up to date. We tested this in our lab and could succesfully shadow iPads, iPhones and Mac devices, using the same policies and configuration error code 7044 that is present at the customer's site. A while back Citrix published some information regarding XenApp and shadowing when using multiple monitors, namely that limitations within RDS prevent this functionality in XenApp 6.x. I checked with the customer and sure enough they were trying to shadow these devices from a multi-monitor system. If either the shadower or the shadowee had a duel screen setup they would return one of the following error codes: Shadower: Shadow failed: Error code 120 (Error 120 – This function is not supported on this system) Shadowee: Shadow failed: Error code 7044 (Error 7044 – The request to control the another session remotely was denied) Changing this to a single screen setup and then trying to launch a shadow session resulted in a successful connection. Please note – this error code is not just for apple devices but for all devices whether that be a Windows, Apple or Android device.
