Computers only do what you tell them, so they might not see problems which do exist, or they might see problems that do not exist, or they might indicate a problem which is in reality caused by some other component. They work is by checking their inputs against each other - for example, if the voltage coming from the oxygen sensor is not what it expects given where the throttle is, how fast the engine is moving, etc., it will post an error code and, in some cases, light up a warning lamp on the instrument panel. All Cars at Allpar Dealers have sophisticated computers which plug into your car's computer and can gain massive amounts of information; but backyard mechanics can also benefit from knowing what the computer thinks is wrong (since it's often right), especially given that those well-equipped dealers often have dishonest and poorly-trained mechanics. Please read all the bullets before zooming to the codes. Thanks. use today. OBD is an electronic system designed to control engine functions and diagnose engine problems or component failures, as well as minimize emissions. OBD-II, a new standard introduced in http://www.wjjeeps.com/faultcodes.htm cars built after January 1, 1996, provides almost complete engine control and also https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DN14htXm8GU monitors parts of the chassis, body and accessory components, as well as the diagnostic control network of the vehicle. OBD-II equipped vehicles have a connector located in the passenger compartment, usually accessible from the driver's seat (under the dash above the hood release lever in the Grand Cherokee WJ). A cable is plugged error codes into the OBD-II connector and connected to a scanning tool. This can range from a simple hand-held meter that provides a coded read-out of the various diagnostic functions, up to a large console computer-based unit costing thousands of dollars. Fault codes usually appear after the "Check Engine" light has come on. The data provided by the OBD-II system can sometimes pinpoint the specific component that 2001 chrysler error has malfunctioned, saving substantial service time and cost. Scanning OBD-II signals can also provide important information when purchasing a used vehicle. Recent introductions of less costly scanning devices have allowed home mechanics and small shops accessibility to OBD-II signals to use them for their own testing and repairs. Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) In the Grand Cherokee WJ, the MIL gives an indication to the vehicle operator when the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) has recorded a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) for an On-Board Diagnostics II (OBDII) emissions-related circuit or component malfunction. The MIL is controlled by a transistor on the instrument cluster circuit board based upon cluster programming and electronic messages received by the cluster from the PCM over the Programmable Communications Interface (PCI) data bus. The MIL bulb is completely controlled by the instrument cluster logic circuit, and that logic will only allow this indicator to operate when the instrument cluster receives a battery current input on the fused ignition switch output (run-start) circuit. Therefore, the bulb will always be off when the ignition switch is in any position except On or Start. The bulb only illuminates when it is provided a path to gr

Published on Jul 1, 2013This video is to show you how to check your trouble codes on your 2001-2007 Dodge Caravan/Grand Caravan, Chrysler Town and Country, and Chrysler Voyager without your OBD2 reader. Its simple you start at the off position and go ON-OFF,ON-OFF, ON and your trouble codes will be displayed.Just to let you know not all codes set the CEL light as their extremely minor, or are manufacture specific codes, like my case, I had a code but it didn't set the CEL light. The most common code you will come across when you do the key dance is the P1684 code which means your battery has been disconnected in the last 50 starts. This will appear if you have disconnected your battery for any particular reason, and will clear after 50 starts, but if this code appears and you haven't disconnected your battery then you may have a glitch of some sort that you may want to look into. This is only limited to the 4th gen 2001-2007 Chrysler/Dodge minivans, as I am not sure if its the same for the third gen 1996-2000 Chrysler/Dodge minivans, the 5th gen 2008-2013+ Chrysler/Dodge minivans, or any other Chrysler vehicle in particular. Hope this helps you in retrieving your trouble codes without a OBD2 reader.**Update on the P0513 code**Basically the same day I made this video was the day the code showed up, the P0513 code meant that I had an incorrect immobilizer key, but the van started fine and didn't shut off after it was started. So after talking to a few people, they said that the code could have been set from putting a valet (Blank) key into the ignition, which did. So I waited a week to see if the code disappeared and it did. So I guess the code was set from the valet key, and relieved a lot of stress as I was worried that the van wouldn't start one day. So if you ever see the P
