Solved Error connecting to authd on host Posted on 2010-03-11 VMware Virtualization 2 Verified Solutions 10 Comments 1,615 Views Last Modified: 2012-05-09 We have Virtual Center 2.5 installed on a server. When trying to connect to the console for a virtual machine through the VMWare Infrastructure Client (From the Vcenter server), we get the error: Error connecting to authd on host. We get the same error when going through a webbrowser to the Virtual Center server, or directly to the ESX hosts. However it works just fine if we connect from another workstation to the Virtual Center server. I've researched and tried about everything to fix this but without luck. The VCenter server and the workstation on which it works fine are running the same version of VIC. Your help would be very much appreciated. 0 Question by:gimosuby Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 3 Best Solution bygimosuby Okay, here we go... I am getting the error connecting to authd on host xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx in https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/25346866/Error-connecting-to-authd-on-host.html the VI client window. Until recently I have been able to connect through the VI Client andweb ui. Nothing on the ESX server has been changed or updated. I have tried different laptops to connect through the client andweb interface. I get mixed results. Some of the laptops were able toconnect through the client and web ui https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/231216b1-0fa8-41ff-b24f-aba1ac13f45a/vmware-infrastructure-client-error-on-windows-xp-professional-error-connecting-to-authd-on-host?forum=itproxpsp and others get the same authderror. This leads me to believe that something on the laptop(s)(Microsoft) arecausing my issue. All of the laptops are using Windows XP SP2, IE 8,.net 3.5 sp1. I have tried to find dll's that are different in version#, but nothing has surfaced. Has anyone had problems with certain Microsoft fixpacks or other updates or versions of Microsoft software that caused their vmware client to stop functioning correctly. Thanks for any help!! on 20 October 2011 by Michele Some days ago I was preparing a new CentOS virtual machine from a template in my ESX 3.5 infrastructure, but when i was https://itsystemsnotes.wordpress.com/ selecting the Datacenter for the deployment, it appeared the following message: "Unable to migrate from esx1 to esx2: Virtual Machine has 2 virtual CPUs, but the host software only supports 1. The number http://blog.vmpros.nl/2009/06/03/vmware-exiting-hung-maintenance-mode-on-esx-server-9639912/ of virtual CPU's may be limited by the guest OS selected for the virtual machines or by the licensing for the host" My ESX 3.5 Standard licenses provide virtual machines configured to 4 error connecting vCPU. Fortunately the VMware KB saved me with this article: simply unconfigure the licenses of all the hosts from the Configuration tab, setting "Unlicensed" and then again "ESX Server Standard". As the article says, this is a workaround because "VMware is investigating an issue that causes this to occur in a VI3 environment as well" . That's all folks;) Posted in VMware | Tagged Error, KB, Licenses, error connecting to Migration, Template, Tips&Tricks, vCPU, VMware | Leave a comment Studying for VMware VCPexam Posted on 20 October 2011 by Michele Today i'd like to share with you the tricks and the most useful resources that helped me during my preparation. First of all, VCP is the first step in the path of professional certifications from VMware, dedicated to the vSphere platform. To learn more, click here . As you know, there are tons of useful resources to prepare the exam: official courses (required to access the exam!!!), manuals, online simulations, etc … For myself, I can tell you that: - The exam consists of 85 questions, single or multiple choiche, to be completed in 120 minutes (+15 minutes to survey questions), questions are very "mnemonic" ("After how many seconds the host is isolated?" "How many VMs can run on a host?") so you have to STUDY!!! - The official course does not cover all the arguments of the exam, it is quite heavy and requires knowledge about operating systems, networks, storage. It's important to build a test enviroment to study and learn better - The experience is important! On the internet you can find almost all th

Note: Before you begin please refer to KB1003490 for important information on restarting the mgmt-vmware service. To exit from a hung maintenance mode, try the following: Disconnect the Virtual Infrastructure Client (by closing it) and reconnect to the ESX Server system, to see if the option exit maintenance mode appears. If this works, there was a problem refreshing the information known to the Virtual Infrastructure Client. Try restarting the management agent. This shouldn't affect any running virtual machines and often clears hung tasks. However prior to ESX Server 3.0.1 (and in ESX Server 3.5.x issuing this command will cause virtual machines to restart if the option "autostart on boot" is set inside VirtualCenter Server. From the service console of the ESX Server host, type: # service mgmt-vmware restart Try exiting maintenance mode using the vimsh command. Log into the ESX Server service console as root, either using your favorite SSH program or directly on the physical console. Run the following command: # vimsh You might see some messages similar to the following, which you can safely ignore: [2007-04-02 13:17:30.031 ‘App' 3076472960 info] Current working directory: /usr/lib/vmware/hostd [2007-04-02 13:17:30.033 ‘BaseLibs' 3076472960 info] Using system libcrypto, version 90709F [2007-04-02 13:17:30.057 ‘BaseLibs' 11213744 warning] [Vmdb_Unset] Unsetting unknown path: /vmomi/ When you get to the vimsh command prompt [/]$ type the following command: [/]$ /hostsvc/maintenance_mode_exit You should see a confirmation that the command was valid and the task was initiated, similar to the following: ‘vim.Task:haTask-ha-host-vim.HostSystem.exitMaintenanceMode-1610715' At this point, the ESX Server host should exit maintenance mode. Exit the vimsh session when you return to the command prompt: [/]$ quit Alternate commands to run for vimsh: Enter maintenance mode (turn on): vimsh -n -e /hostsvc/maintenance_mode_enter Exit maintenance mode (turn off): vimsh -n -e /hostsvc/ma
