Everything works and the server delivers the correct cert to clients. Except for when connecting directly from the Apache-host. #
Unable To Make A Secure Connection To The Server. This May Be A Problem With The Server
curl -v https://example.com * About to connect() to example.com port 443 (#0) * Trying xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx... * connected * Connected to example.com (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx) port 443 (#0) * successfully set certificate verify locations: * CAfile: none CApath: /etc/ssl/certs * SSLv3, TLS handshake, Client hello (1): * error:140770FC:SSL routines:SSL23_GET_SERVER_HELLO:unknown protocol * Closing connection #0 curl: (35) error:140770FC:SSL routines:SSL23_GET_SERVER_HELLO:unknown protocol The same comandline works when executed from another Computer. After some testing I found out that the problem happens when source IP and destination IP are the same. # curl -v --interface 127.0.0.1 https://example.com works perfectly and the TLS handshake succeeds. The Server has two interfaces configured. As long as the interface IP does not match the IP of the resolved hostname everything works. For now I was able to do a workaround for the problem but cannot figure out what is causing this behaviour. ~# lsb_release -si -sr Debian 7.8 ~# apache2 -v Server version: Apache/2.2.22 (Debian) Server built: Dec 23 2014 22:48:29 ~# gnutls-cli -v gnutls-cli (GnuTLS) 2.12.20 Packaged by Debian (2.12.20-8+deb7u3) ~# host example.com example.com has address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx ~# ifconfig |grep inet -B1 eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HW

Apache Virtual Host Connection Refused

Unable to make a secure connection to the server. This may be a problem with the server, or it may be requiring a client authentication certificate that you don't have. Error 107 (net::ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR): SSL http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3286707/apache-ssl-configuration-error-ssl-connection-error protocol error. The error message above seems to be native to Google Chrome. However, even though the messages are different, ssl for the site is not working on any browser. Just some background on the situation: I am using Ubuntu 10.04 desktop edition. I installed apache by installing zend server (it installed apache automatically). I then installed openssl. Non-https pages work fine on the site. I tried getting trial certificates from multiple certificate sites but nothing is working (same error). I was previously hosting my site on another server on which ssl worked just fine. I also tried using the key and crt file from that server, but I got the same error. The domain name and IP are still the same though. My SSLCertificateFile and SSLCertificateKeyFile are pointing to the correct directory and files. I also do not have SSLVerifyClient enabled. If anyone has any suggestions, it would be most appreciated. apache ssl https openssl share|improve this question asked Jul 20 '10 at 3:01 user396404 1,14151933 2 I have exactly the same issue? However, I want to use the same server/ip to show more than one website. I can't get Virtual Hosts to work though. My conf.d/virtual.conf is: NameVirtualHost 192.168.10.151:80 My sites-available/www.mydomain.com is: Listen 80
Apache was not working, but all the hosted websites are accesible... Strange. I've checked apache with "apachectl status" and get following: Code: Looking up localhost Making HTTP connection to localhost Alert!: Unable to connect to remote host. lynx: Can't access startfile http://localhost/server-status I've tried to telnet to port 80 and get an error (port 21, 81, etc have no problem). Any idea? akaiser, Jun 1, 2007 #1 falko Super Moderator ISPConfig Developer What's the output of Code: httpd -t ? Any errors in Apache's error log? falko, Jun 2, 2007 #2 akaiser New Member The output of httpd -t is Code: Syntax OK akaiser, Jun 4, 2007 #3 falko Super Moderator ISPConfig Developer Ok, any errors in Apache's error log? What's he output of Code: netstat -tap ? falko, Jun 5, 2007 #4 akaiser New Member netstat shows Code: tcp 0 0 server1.xxx:www *:* LISTEN 32034/apache The hostname is server1.xxx.com I've checked the apache error log, but there aren't errors related with this (just some "File does not exist: /var/www/sharedip/search.php", etc) I've also checked apache config (httpd.conf), dind't found nothing strange (for example "ServerName localhost") If it helps Apache is version 1.3.33 using ispconfig 2.2.13. akaiser, Jun 5, 2007 #5 falko Super Moderator ISPConfig Developer tcp 0 0 server1.xxx:www *:* LISTEN 32034/apacheClick to expand... Apache is listening on a specific IP address only, not on all IP addresses. ISPConfig probes the Apache on the IP address 127.0.0.1. Because your Apache is not listening on 127.0.0.1, ISPConfig thinks that it's offline. falko, Jun 6, 2007 #6 akaiser New Member Thanks... I have corrected the httpd.conf file to: Code: Listen xx.xx.xx.xx:80 Listen 127.0.0.1:80 and all is working now! Would it be better (more secure) to change it to Code: Listen 80 I have a server with various IP, and have some IP only configured for mail, dns, etc akaiser, Jun 6, 2007 #7 falko Super Moderator ISPConfig Developer Both solutions are ok. With the latter Apache will listen on all IP addresses. falko, Jun 7, 2007 #8 gg.heato New Member to original thread opener:im not hijacking
