I am at error 111 squirrelmail the stage where you run a configtest to see if everything checks out.

Sadly, my configtest is failing like this: SquirrelMail version: 1.4.9a Config file version: 1.4.0 Config file last modified: 14 squirrelmail error connecting to imap server localhost. 111 connection refused September 2008 23:55:13 Checking PHP configuration... I had already opened the port 25 on my iptables firewall like this: # iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 25 -j error connecting to imap server localhost. 111 connection refused cpanel ACCEPT So, I ran the following command to see if dovecot imap server was running... # netstat -tap and this is what i saw: Active Internet connections (servers and established) Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State PID/Program name tcp 0 0 *:imaps *:* LISTEN 24173/dovecot While other server/programs on my server are running on a specific port (e.g. webserver on *:80), dovecot is running on *:imaps Is this correct? Is this what's causing my configtest to fail with SquirrelMail? First time playing with mail server + mail client. Please advice. adobe, Sep 15, 2008 #1 adobe New Member After some digging into the documentation file, i realised there was a setting called "listen" and "ssl_listen" on the /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf config file, so I set it up like this ... listen *:25 ssl_listen *:143 had it saved and restarted the dovecot like this ... # /etc/init.d/dovecot stop # /etc/init.d/dovecot start When I ran the configtest again, this is what it shows now ... SquirrelMail configtest This script will try to check some aspects of your SquirrelMail configuration and point you to errors whereever it can find them

You can verify that with this command: /etc/init.d/dovecot restart If that doesn't help https://www.virtualmin.com/node/33447 -- the error mentions "111", which might be referring to the port it's trying to connect to... that's not the correct IMAP port though, do you know if the default port was changed? -Eric Log in or register to post comments #3 Mon, 06/23/2014 - 21:01 (Reply to #2) dark thank you Erik i tried reinstalled virtualmin and opened domain email, etc. and seems now can send an email with the account added, and can login into squirrel mail installed correctly, but problems is can not receive an email~ so what problems with this, should i open other functions and plugins? RecentChanges | Preferences This is very similar to the MailServerSMTPProblem, except it deals with your IMAP server. Potential causes: The server you specified doesn't exist (typo). You don't have an IMAP server running on the server you specified. It is not on the port you specified (it usually runs on port http://squirrelmail.org/wiki/MailServerIMAPProblem 143). You are denied access to the IMAP server. There is no Maildir directory for that username (will happen with Qmail MTA's). Telnet to port 143 (or whatever) of the IMAP server and see if you get a response http://www.dovecot.org/list/dovecot/2012-January/133235.html of some sort. You can use "a01 logout" to close the IMAP connection if it exists. If that works, check your configuration again for SquirrelMail and check your configuration for the IMAP server. Maybe the IMAP server's logs will provide error connecting some insight? I had to do a couple things: Turn on IMAP in xinetd. Figure out how I can connect to my IMAP server by using "telnet xxxx.example.com 143" or whatever. The notes above are good for testing this. After you figure out how you can connect, you need to rerun the server configuration utility. If you're using Red Hat 8.0, you should set it up like this: SquirrelMail Configuration : Read: config.php (1.2.0) --------------------------------------------------------- Server Settings 1. Domain error connecting to : xxx.example.com 2. IMAP Server : xxx.example.com 3. IMAP Port : 143 4. Use Sendmail/SMTP : SMTP 6. SMTP Server : xxx.example.com 7. SMTP Port : 25 8. Authenticated SMTP : false 9. POP Before SMTP : false 10. Server : uw 11. Invert Time : false 12. Delimiter : detect Notice how the server is "uw" and NOT "cyrus". Red Hat 8.0 uses UW by default. The SquirrelMail error "There was an error contacting the mail server." is also displayed even if the IMAP server is running, but is configured to require TLS/SSL authentication. This means that SquirrelMail is required to authenticate with the IMAP server in an encrypted stream as opposed to clear text. I am presently (March 2003) seeing issues with SquirrelMail 1.2.1.1 and FreeBSD 5.0 (UW IMAPd) out-of-the-box, but I suspect that it is my SquirrelMail configuration that is at fault.
