Connection refused... Hi Guys, I keep getting an error when creating a database: when you go to services tab in NetBeans, right click Java DB, and click on Create Database... Then i fill in all the details and click okay. After I clicked okay it pops up with the error: An error occurred while creating the database: java.sql.SQLNonTransientConnectionException: java.net.ConnectException : Error connecting to server localhost on port 1527 with message Connection refused: connect.. Some forums suggested I add below text to java.policy but still no luck: permission java.net.SocketPermission "localhost:1527", "listen, resolve"; }; grant codeBase "file:${java.home}}/../db/lib/*" { permission java.security.AllPermission; }; I'm using NetBeans IDE 7.3. using it for a uni workshop. Got myself a brand new macBook Pro after...ahem...spilling coffee on my previous one. I have downloaded JDK 7 and Netbeans 7.4 It all worked fine on the previous one (even after a reinstall I did somewhere in August/September), but not this one. I found this on the webpages though: "Java DB is installed when you install JDK 6 or JDK 7 (except on Mac OS X). If you are using Mac OS X you can download and install Java DB manually or use the Java DB that is installed by Java EE version of the NetBeans IDE installer." I'm just mentioning this in case you recently got a new mac, but otherwise I need help myself if this doesn't work for me. It appears to be a bug in a recent update in the Java JDK tool. It is described in this page: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/7u51-relnotes-2085002.html I googled the output from Glassfish, and found a solution here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/21154400/unable-to-start-derby-database-from-netbeans-7-4 What I basically did, that you might want to try: Find this file under your java-folder: Java\jdk1.7.0_51\jre\lib\security\
