It's quite possible that you are trying to connect to a database without the actual server running on Port 1527. You could try establishing a connection using the command line / linux shell - depending on what operating system you are using. Try this if you like: Open a command prompt Navigate to your Derby installation directory Navigate to the "bin" directory(Note:N

The form will have Next and Previous to scroll through the data. Individual records will then be displayed in http://w.planetnetbeans.org/topic59679.html text fields. We'll also add button to Update a record, Delete a record, and create a new record in the database. To get started, and for simplicity's sake, we'll error connecting use a terminal/console window to output the results from a database. So start a new project for this by clicking File > New Project from the NetBeans menu. Create a Java Application. Call the project database_console, and the Main class DBConnect: When you click Finish, your code should look like this: Connecting to the Database To connect error connecting to to a database you need a Connection object. The Connection object uses a DriverManager. The DriverManager passes in your database username, your password, and the location of the database. Add these three import statements to the top of your code: import java.sql.Connection; import java.sql.DriverManager; import java.sql.SQLException; To set up a connection to a database, the code is this: Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection( host, username, password ); So the DriverManager has a method called getConnection. This needs a host name (which is the location of your database), a username, and a password. If a connection is successful, a Connection object is created, which we've called con. You can get the host address by looking at the Services tab on the left of NetBeans: The address of the highlighted database above is: jdbc:derby://localhost:1527/Employees The first part, jdbc:derby://localhost, is the database type and server that you're using. The 1527 is the port number. The database is Employees. This can all go in a String variable: String host = "jdbc:derby://localhost:1527/Employees"; Two more strings can be NetBeans Forums -> NetBeans Users View previous topic :: View next topic Author Message RuruJoined: 13 Mar 2014Posts: 1 Posted: Thu Mar 13, 2014 11:03 am Post subject: Create Database... Connection refused... Hi Guys, I keep getting an error when creating a database: when you go to services tab in NetBeans, right click Java DB, and click on Create Database... Then i fill in all the details and click okay. After I clicked okay it pops up with the error: An error occurred while creating the database: java.sql.SQLNonTransientConnectionException: java.net.ConnectException : Error connecting to server localhost on port 1527 with message Connection refused: connect.. Some forums suggested I add below text to java.policy but still no luck: permission java.net.SocketPermission "localhost:1527", "listen, resolve"; }; grant codeBase "file:${java.home}}/../db/lib/*" { permission java.security.AllPermission; }; I'm using NetBeans IDE 7.3. using it for a uni workshop. Got myself a brand new macBook Pro after...ahem...spilling coffee on my previous one. I have downloaded JDK 7 and Netbeans 7.4 It all worked fine on the previous one (even after a reinstall I did somewhere in August/September), but not this one. I found this on the webpages though: "Java DB is installed when you install JDK 6 or JDK 7 (except on Mac OS X). If you are using Mac OS X you can download and install Java DB manually or use the Java DB that is installed by Java EE version of the NetBeans IDE installer." I'm just mentioning this in case you recently got a new mac, but otherwise I need help myself if this doesn't work for me. It appears to be a bug in a recent update in the Java JDK tool. It is described in this page: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/7u51-relnotes-2085002.html I googled the output from Glassfish, and found a solution here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/21154400/unable-to-start-derby-database-from-netbeans-7-4 What I basically did, that you might want to try: Find this file under your java-folder: Java\jdk1.7.0_51\jre\lib\securit
