Error Device Object Not Present

It reports no audio device and the selections are all grayed out. When I try to reinstall the SigmaTel driver (and I tried three different ones) for my computer, I receive the error message "Device Object not present, restart the system and run setup again." Gateway support has not provided a solution to date. I have two identical Gateway E-6500D and the problem exists on both. I gave up and installed a sound card on one, but would like to find a solution to this problem. Any ideas? I suggest trying the following steps to troubleshoot the issue: Step 1 Remove the current driver ============= 1. From the Start menu, click Control Panel. 2. In Control Panel, click Uninstall a Program. 3. In the Programs and Features window, select SigmaTel HD Audio, and then click Uninstall/Change. 4. In the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue. 5. Follow all onscreen instructions to complete the removal. Step 2 Install the latest driver ============= 1. Download the driver to the Desktop from the following link: http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/getFile.asp?id=21615&dscr=WIndows%20Vista%20(32-bit%20or%2064-bit)%20Sigmatel%20HD%20Audio%20Driver%206.10.5405.0&uid=180578312 Please Note: The third-party product discussed here is manufactured by a company that is independent of Microsoft. Several times I have formatted my C drive to intall fresh OS and have used the sigmatel driver and everything had worked fine. Flying_Kiwi Dec 13, 2011 9:27 AM (in response to anand_jha_30) That error is not specific enough to be able to tell if you have hardware failure. Do you have any other reason to believe the onboard audio may be blown? If it was working OK immediately before you had the need to install that driver (presumably after an OS reinstall) then its unlikely to be hardware. When did you first encounter the failure of audio (under what circumstances and was any audio being played at the time)?Why are you still with SP2 and not 3? Have you tried all of the latest drivers for your OS from the Intel website rather than just those on the CDROM that came with the board? Like Show 0 Likes(0) Actions 2.
