: Tech Points : 1 From: United Kingdom Posted:11/4/2008 3:25:00 PM # 1 My eee box has suddenly decided to crash about a minute after startup - whatever it's doing. It sometimes crashes & hangs with no video output, and sometimes restarts. Once or twice it's given me the blue screen of death if it manages to load windows with an irq_not_less_or_equal 0x00000000a stop error.I have two windows XP operating systems installed on two partitions and both crash a few seconds after login so i'm pretty sure it's not a driver or registry issue. It will even crash before windows has loaded - i.e. it will crash in BIOS - displaying a few horizontal graphics artifacts a few seconds before crashing, or in boot selection screens. Booting to safe mode or VGA mode, or underclocking the GPU from BIOS all crash in the same way.Twice after crashing it complained of a bad bios checksum, so i updated the bios from 0501 to 0902 successfully and still no luck. From what little i can gather online this is likely to be a hardware fault, but could be an IRQ allocation problem. If it is the latter is there any way to solve the problem without ripping the thing apart? Many thanks, Edit Reply Quote & Reply magnus Member Posts : 38 Level : Tech Points : 48 From: Canada Posted:11/6/2008 7:12:00 AM # 2 Whoops sorry system stuck my post in the wrong thread. Windows XP, WinSetupFromUSB This guide will show you, how to use WinSetupFromUSB to create a bootable USB Flash Drive including all Windows source files, plus the following installation of Windows XP. Compare to the different USB_Multiboot versions, WinSetupFromUSB comes with a Graphical User Interface (GUI) and is in my opinion easier to use. Here you can get the latest version of the program and you will also find many detailed informations about WinSetupFromUSB. I've tested this guide with a 32-bit http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&board_id=20&id=20100305063446171&model=Eee+PC+1000H%2FXP version of Windows XP and a 64-bit version of Windows Vista and it worked flawlessly. Prerequisites: All you need is: a USB Flash Drive with at least 1GB of storage the original Windows XP Setup CD WinSetupFromUSB If you use nLite to slim down your version of Windows XP, please keep the following in mind: DO https://myeeeguides.wordpress.com/2008/11/15/winsetupfromusb-install-windows-xp-from-usb-flash-drive/ NOT remove "Manual Install and Upgrade" under Operating System Options! I also recommend to integrate Service Pack 3 into your Windows XP source files. 1. Preparations Download and install WinSetupFromUSB. Default installation path is C:\WinSetupFromUSB. Create a new folder with the name WINXPCD in the root directory of drive C:\ and copy all files from your Windows XP Setup CD into this folder. Depending on your version of Windows XP, the content of C:\WINXPCD should look approximately like this: The following files will show you, which Service Pack is already integrated into your CD: WIN51IC.SP1, Sevice Pack 1 WIN51IC.SP2, Sevice Pack 2 WIN51IC.SP3, Sevice Pack 3 2. Start WinSetupFromUSB Connect the USB Flash Drive to your PC and start WinSetupFromUSB. It should show up under USB Disk Selection : 3. Select your Source Path Click on Browse under Windows 2000/XP/2003 Source and navigate to the folder with your Windows XP Source Files. It should be C:\WINXPCD: Click OK and C:\WINXPCD should show up under Windows 2000/X

Booted into XP Pro x64 w/SP2 and used the source CD itself as the source. Started the RyanVM Integrator > CD/DVD drive selected > Destination selected > Update Pack Selected > Addons Selected > Integrate selected > Log file started > Error message > File error dosnet.inf not not found - dosnet.inf not found in I386 directory! > OK > RyanVM closed. Opened Explorer and found DOSNET.INF in the AMD64 directory on the CD. Opened Explorer and went to the hard drive folder containing the copy of the CD - DOSNET.INF in the AMD64 directory. WTF!!!!. Booted into Win7 Ultimate 64-bit w/SP1 and opted to try the CD from here. Started the RyanVM Integrator > CD/DVD drive selected > Destination selected > Update Pack Selected > Addons Selected > Integrate selected > Updates and Addons Successful > WMP11 Slipstreamer opened > Basic options selected as appropriate > Integrate > Unhandled Exception > Offending hotfix: windowsserver2003.windowsxp-kb979482-x64-enu.exe > The source has not been corrupted. All changes have been successfully undone. > Close > Opted to try again and omit offending file > Integrate > Success - Integration completed successfully. So, why did things work in Win7 Ultimate and not when I booted into XP Pro x64 w/SP2? Not finding the folder containing DOSNET.INF seems to be part of the problem. A check of my stuff found a previously made XP Pro x64 w/SP2 RyanVM Integated CD completed 27 Nov 2009 (probably using
