Error establishing a database connection means only one thing. The information in your wp-config.php file has an error. But, your site is up now. zerozanet @zerozanet 2 months, 2 weeks ago It might be that your webserver allows for more connections than your database server. I am not sure if this is something that your hosting provider will adjust for you. It depends if your VPS is managed or unmanaged. I would suggest you ask your host / VPS admin to check MySQL's max_connection setting and increase the default 100 to 250. The setting is located in the server's my.cnf If your VPS has cPanel or WHM it could be located somewhere in the panel itself. Sort of like migrating from remote to local. I've already ftp-ed the error establishing a site itself, but having problems transferring database. The database on the remote has "db_name" database name, "username", and "password". I've replicated all those and it works fine when the database is empty. I get the setup screen to setup my new site on localhost. So the database connection is working fine. But soon as I restore the database from the dump (mysql -u root < dump.sql) and try to access the site, it throws the "Error establishing a database connection" error. Why does it throw that error when I know for a fact that couldn't possibly be the problem! Any ideas? I've captured the logs fresh for both cases for clarity by deleting previous ones and restarting the respective services. As such they're almost identical and unfortunately don't reveal anything..
