If some site forces https, you have no alternative but to switch browsers.Well, you might also try to update your old firefox's code to the latest openssl, but that'd be a bit involved. Dillo in TC 6 is compiled to use https, real lightweight. Not the best at rendering but likely a very reasonable alternative to very outdated Firefox.
