I have a lot of time invested in that file, and really don't want to lose it. Any suggestions? This should audit the drawing as it opens and will give an indication of how many errors it finds. If the drawing recovers ok then AUDIT and PURGE it before saving it again. If the drawing does not open see the next step. error fatal autocad Try double clicking on the file in explorer to open it. AutoCAD should tell you that the drawing file needs recovery Click OK to begin the recovery. If the drawing opens then PURGE, and SAVE it. If the drawing does not open see the next step. If you get an 'OUT OF MEMORY' error see the step after. You should have a backup '.bak' file in the same folder as the problem drawing, this is the previously saved version of your drawing that was renamed last time you did a save; rename this backup to have a '.dwg' extension and open it. The 'OUT OF MEMORY' error seems to be a problem with the viewport becoming set to a ridiculous scale. If no backup or autosave is available try INSERTING the drawing into a blank model space; this should bring back the problem drawing model space but anything that was in paper space will be lost. Again AUDIT, PURGE, and SAVE the drawing after inserting the model space. If none of the above work you could try opening and saving using Drawing True View Trueview can often open and clean up corrupted files, especially if you convert it to another Acad file version.
