When she sends a print job to the printer it prints an error page stating that there is a PCL XL error in the KERNEL subsystem, the error being "IllegalTag". https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/20767348/PCL-XL-Error-IllegalTag-message-received-when-trying-to-print.html We have a number of users printing to this machine but only the one person receiving this error message as such I am wondering if this is something on her local machine settings, but if so I am not sure what. Please advise how best to proceed to resolve this issue. Thanks and regards Jeremy 0 Question by:Jerrytb Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 2 Best Solution byJamesNewton Try the PCL5e driver on that workstation rather than the PCL6 driver. It will work just as well and will not produce that error. The error can also be caused by an incompatibility between the Enhanced XL language and the software application that is associated with the file being printed, Adobe Photoshop Album in your case. The procedure in this HP support document for a different Laserjet model should help determining the source of the problem. In most cases the PCL5e drivers are recommended over PCL6 drivers. They work just as well and won't throw such errors. PCL 6 XL is less forgiving of slight glitches in the printer driver or software. PCL5e has been around longer and is considered more stable. share|improve this answer edited May 16 '09 at 11:16 answered May 15 '09 at 20:28 splattne 23.8k1686138 Thanks for the explanation. Upgraded to the latest version of the drivers and the problem seems to be resolved... for now anyways. :) –Matt Hanson May 16 '09 at 0:37 add a comment| up vote 1 down vote If you are using the PCL6 driver, try the PCL5 driver or PS driver. share|improve this answer answered May 15 '09 at 20:09 Joseph 3,3271932 add a comment| up vote 1 down vote Sounds like a problem with the driver --
