Learn the ins and outs of level-checking. In IBM i, high-level language (HLL) programs are dependent on receiving, at run time, an externally described file (a database file, or a device file, such as a display file, or a printer file) whose format agrees with what was copied into the program at compilation time. For this reason, the system provides a level-checking function that ensures that the format is the same. Level-checking occurs on a record-format basis when the file is opened unless you specify LVLCHK(*NO) when you issue a file override command or create a file. If the level-check values do not match, the program is stopped by a level-check error, aka the CPF4131 error message. CPF4131 might be one of the most frequently encountered error messDate: Sat, 6 Apr 2002 13:01:30 -0500 Importance: Normal List-archive:
CPF4131 error message during an OPEN instruction. Iunderstand the message may be related to some (file ?) format. Theprogram then returns error code 1. How can i handle this _blocking_situation, specifically in terms of not being able to produce myperiodic reports? For information, i am not able or authorized to access the code. This is the safe way.- changing the file to change LVLCHK attribute to *NO. This way theprogram will act as the structure of the file was the old one. Thiscould not be safe. If the file was changed because of a field was addedat the end of the structure, usually changing the file to LVLCHK(*NO) donot cause problems. But if an intermediate field was added or changed inlength, big problems will occur.--Dr.Ugo Gagliardelli,Modena,ItalyCertifiedUindoscrasherAñejoAlcoolInsideSpaccamaroni andate a cagare/Spammers not welcome/Spammers vão à merdaSpamers iros a la mierda/Spamers allez vous faire foutre/Spammers loopschijten/Spammers macht Euch vom Acker/Spamerzy wypierdalac' jardin bleu 2006-10-13 15:
