msdv.inf..." or "A file exists..." when you start SonySwitcher 2.0 on a Sony VAIO Issue When you try to start SonySwitcher 2.0, SonySwitcher returns one of the following error messages: -- "Can't edit file msdv.inf. Contents may have been edited by another application. No changes have been made." -- "A file exists in the backup directory that should not be overwritten." Detail You are using Windows 98SE or Me on a Sony VAIO. Solutions Do one of the following solutions: Solution 1: Use SonySwitcher 3.0. SonySwitcher 3.0 is available at no charge on the Adobe website at www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=42&platform=Windows . Solution 2: Edit the msdv.inf file. Edit the msdv.inf file to allow SonySwitcher to switch between Microsoft DV device control and Sony DV device control: 1. Choose Start > Search > For Files and Folders. 2. Where can I find information about driver .inf files and how windows checks if they are usable? I know that many people do modify .inf files so there must be some information on the Internet.
