Access #type! Error
am creating a report in Access 2007 and I want to do the average, maximum, and minimum of several lab results. When I enter the following in the control source box, I get an #Error message in the group footer when all records being subtotaled are null when displaying the report. How can I get rid of this #Error and have the results return no value at all. =CDbl(Avg([Arsenic])) Thus data might access #error in textbox look like this in my report Serum _______________________ Arsenic Iron 30 10 30 15 ____________________ Avg 25 10 Max 30 10 Min 15 10 __________________________ Liver __________________________ Arsenic Iron 8 0 2 ____________________ Avg #Error 5 Max #Error 8 Min #Error 0 Many thanks ms-access-2007 aggregate-functions share|improve this question asked Jul 10 '13 at 23:43 user12059 147620 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote accepted If you use just =Avg([Arsenic]), it'll be blank. Whats causing the #Error is when Avg() returns a blank, CDbl has a null input. If you absolutely must have CDbl() for whatever reason, then =IIf(Avg([Arsenic]) Is Null,"",CDbl(Avg([Arsenic]))) will work share|improve this answer answered Jul 11 '13 at 15:52 ashareef 1,596618 Awesome. Thanks. BTW. CDbl is just what the wizard entered. I figured it knew best. I do like having the IIF solution to add to my helpful hints file. –user12059 Jul 11 '13 at 16:04 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using Email and Password Post as a guest Name Email Post as a guest Name Email discard By posting your answer, you agree to the privacy policy and terms of service.

work OK, but others throw #Error. I cannot see why. Do you know? Applies To This topic is relevant to Microsoft Access 97, 2000, http://stackoverflow.com/questions/17582787/get-rid-of-error-in-access-2007-group-footer-report 2002 (XP), 2003, 2007 and 2010. Answer The most common reason we find is that the name of the text box control itself is the same as the name of a field in the record source of the form, or of the report, that bears the text box. By way http://www.consultdmw.com/access-control-error.htm of illustration, imagine a form or report based on a table that has a field named 'TelNo'. Also, that a text box on the form or report is named 'TelNo'. For the control Source of the text box, you input ="Telephone No: " & [TelNo]. Now Access cannot make up its mind between TelNo the field and TelNo the text box, and as a result displays the error. Change the name of the text box to 'tebTelNo', say, and the Control Source expression to ="Telephone No: " & [tebTelNo] and the text box should behave.
