Solved Cisco IPS sensor Error using http://www.sadikhov.com/forum/index.php/topic/161814-connecting-to-the-ips/ ASDM Posted on 2008-02-28 Security Hardware Firewalls Cisco 1 Verified Solution 2 Comments 6,255 Views Last Modified: 2013-11-29 After configuring some of my event sensor settings I got an error and could not get back into the IPS error loading sensor using ASDM for configuration. Its been working great for months until now. After I put in my username and password for the IPS it tries to pull information into the ASDM and then I get this error. I am no longer getting IPS information updates from the sensor. The ASDM is functional with looking at all other info other than the IPS sensor. I did a simple telnet to the IPS sensor IP: 192.168.1.6 error loading sensor and I can gather various types of info from it. The ASA ip is 192.168.1.5. I was thinking a late night reload of the ASA firewall might clear this up but it will cause interuption. Is there anyway to reload/reboot the IPS module/sensor only without shutting down the firewall and dropping traffic? Any other ideas? To see if the IPS being rebooted will affect firewall traffic, look for one of the following commands in your ASA configuration: ips inline fail-open ips inline fail-close ips promiscuous fail-open ips promiscuous fail-close If you have either of the "fail-open" commands listed, then the ASA will permit traffic when the IPS is rebooted or "fails". If you have either of the "fail-close" commands, then the ASA will block traff

This might sound like a stupid question, but yeah, how do you connect to the IPS in the ASDM? It says I'll have to put an IP on it, but what kind of an IP? do I need to dedicate a whole subnet to this IPS? Or can I have it in the same subnet as my LAN. any help would be greatly appreciated. If the management int has an IP of 192.168.1.1, does that mean that I can connect to the IPS from an IP of 192.168.1.2 ? 0 Back to top #4 Krisi Krisi Member Members 80 posts Gender:Male Posted 09 March 2009 - 10:51 PM yes should be able to connect without any issues. Just assign .2 to your PC. 0 Back to top #5 ComputerDude ComputerDude Advanced Member Members 423 posts Gender:Male Location:USA Interests:Networking Posted 12 March 2009 - 02:40 AM If you want to connect via the CLI, you can type " session 1 " you will be presented with a login prompt with a default username and password of cisco. After entering that, it will ask you to setup a new password. from there you can type setup and it will run you through a setup similar to any other cisco device. I haven't personally connected using the ASDM, but I know the IPS module has a default ip of 10.x.x.x or something like that. Sorry if you knew all that and only wanted the ASDM info. 0 Back to top #6 Alvaro Perez Unzueta Alvaro Perez Unzueta Newbie Members 39 posts Posted 12 March 2009 - 06:05 AM Hello, I passed IPS 1k Best Regards Álvaro 0 Back to top #7 Bangk_naga Bangk_naga Newbie Members 22 posts Location:Indonesia - Heaven Posted 26 March 2009 - 03:49 PM Hi Guys. This might sound like a stupid question, but yeah, how do you connect to the IPS in the ASDM?
