Error Loading Operating System Linux
on my machine, one with BT4 and the other was empty, until recently decided to put windows on it, so, I unplugged the first hard drive (the one with BT4 on it) and set the empty drive as the first HDD, after successfully installing and booting windows on the empty drive, I plugged in the BT4 HDD (as the first HDD now) and got the error 'Error Loading Operating System'. I tried booting into an ubuntu live CD (just one I had on hand) and can see all the files on the filesystem for backtrack (Except the files in root?) I'm not sure what to do? Any advice? 07-04-2009,02:43 AM #2 Virchanza View Profile View Forum Posts Visit Homepage Very good friend of the forum Join Date Jan 2010 Posts 863 Is it your BIOS that is giving that error? If so you probably need to use a boot CD to play around with your partition table, you might need to set the master boot record and also set the boot flag on the appropriate partition. I have a 500GB HDD with these partitions Screenshot.png I'm currently using the live CD to boot because when I try to boot to this HDD it simply comes up with the error "Error loading operating system". It was working fine until I started reformatting a different drive with XP on it; since then it has had the error. As far as I know I need to reconfigure GRUB to boot to the correct partition, but I do not know how to do this. I know that there are already threads about booting/GRUB problems. I have looked at a lot of them but because no one has exactly the same problem as me I do not know what to do. I would really appreciate any help, Thanks in advance, Arachan. I believe I made it with BT5 but sadly my old MutlitBoot USB was not car tired proof. So I started a new one. I've got a grub2 installation and a grub.cfg like that: menuentry "Kali ISO" { set root=(hd0,1) loopback loop /iso/kali-linux-1.0-amd64.iso linux (loop)/live/vmlinuz boot=live iso-scan/filename=/iso/kali-linux-1.0-amd64.iso initrd (loop)/live/initrd.img } But in the end i've got an Error: Live-boot will now start a shell. The error message was: Unable to find a medium containing a live file system I can't remember how i fixed that. any suggestions? The USB Drive will boot to a Live version flawlessly, but when I try to install from the USB, the installer complains that I don't have the disc in the DVD drive. Well, of course I don't--it should come from the USB drive. And I can't get past that step. Anyone having the same problem?
