Symptoms of the problem When computer is powered up, an error message "Error loading operating system" appears (white-on-black letters in text mode and blinking cursor): 2. Normal boot sequence https://neosmart.net/wiki/error-loading-operating-system/ Normally computer boots as shown below (Windows 7 boot sequence is shown as example): BIOS loads 1st sector from HDD (Master Boot Record), verifies 55 AA signature and transfers control to Master Boot Record. Master Boot Record scans partition table for active partition, then it loads 1st sector from active partition, verifies 55 AA signature, and transfers control to Boot Sector. Boot Sector loads http://www.prime-expert.com/articles/b13/fix-error-loading-operating-system.php 15 additional sectors from the beginning of disk (Volume Boot Record) and transfers control to first additional sector of VBR. Volume Boot Record loads BOOTMGR file from root directory of boot partition into the memory and transfers control to it. BOOTMGR loads Boot\BCD registry hive and displays boot menu. BOOTMGR is able to run memory test and set safe mode boot flag per explicit user request. But normally, it loads winload.exe when computer boots normally (cold startup) or winresume.exe (when computer resumes from hibernation). Winload.exe opens SYSTEM registry hive, gets list of drivers, loads NTOSKRNL.exe, loads drivers (*.SYS files) and transfers control to NTOSKRNL.exe. Winresume.exe loads memory dump from hiberfil.sys and transfers control to it. 3. Defect in the boot sequence which leads to Error Loading Operating System error Defect in the boot sequence which is a reason for Error Loading Operating System is shown below: BIOS loads 1st sector from HDD (Master Boot Record), verifies 55 AA signature and transfers control to Master Boot Record. My laptop for my work just stop working, here is the story:the battery died and the computer shut down by itself, when i came back i turn it back on with power cord, enter my bios password and then black screen and the only thing i see in the top left corner: Error loading operating system. So i try to boot on a Win XP cd and do F2 for repair, but when windows starts to start i have a blue screen telling me that the system need to shutdown for safety or something like that.So ithought that it was a bad sector for booting or something like that, i boot using ultimate boot cd i can go in parted magic but i'm not sure what to do there. Any help would be appreciated. And i know that i have some restore point on my system, i mean those restore point that you can usually use in windows to restore your system as an ulterior date, is there a way to restore those points without booting in windows???thanksI forgot to say that i'm running win XP sp2 or 3 not sure.matt Top StopSpazzing Post subject: Re: "Error loading operating system" windows xp can't bootPosted: Fri Oct 01, 2010 12:07 pm Joined: Tue Sep 09, 2008 4:37 pmPosts: 462Location: California, USA Reset your Bios to "Factory Settings" See if that gets you any farther with windows.Next, try booting UBCD and running memtest+, under memory option, to check your RAM to see if its faulty as this would cause all sorts of issues with windows. If memory is bad try removing it and swapping memory sticks if you have 2 or move the 1 to the other slot of you have 2 slots available. Also may want to try another wall outlet as incorrect/fluctuating voltages/frequency can cause Hardware issues as well.Try using the correct Manufacturer HDD tool to see if you can recover the drive. You may have to remove the drive to find out which Manufacturer it is. Then make sure you check and repair with whatever tool you use. _________________~Just StopSpazzing~Visit the UBCD Wiki: http://wiki.ultimatebootcd.comPlease check your UBCD ISO MD5 Hash Sum; May prevent issues later on by not having an exact copy.Currently Working on Common Issues and Repair Tips on the Wiki.
