usb ssd share|improve this question asked Jan 30 '13 at 11:26 user127259 11114 What tool did you use to make the USB key, that didn't warn you about the NTFS filesystem? –Gabriel Sep 22 '13 at 19:04 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote First you have to make you USB bootable with UNetbootin and then in your BIOS set boot priority to boot first from your USB. Then it should work fine. After you install Ubuntu, remove your USB and pc should boot into the Ubuntu installed on your drive. share|improve this answer answered Jan 30 '13 at 11:35 tikend 5472520 Universal USB Installer can also be used to make bootable ubuntu usb, which is a tool prescribed in Ubuntu website. –TheKojuEffect Jan 30 '13 at 11:59 1 did you set up bios correctly? –tikend Jan 30 '13 at 13:02 8 My housemate suggested I try it in FAT32 format instead of NTFS and it worked right away –user127259 Jan 30 '13 at 18:01 2 of course. i forget to tell you this. usb will not boot from ntfs, only from fat32. –tikend Jan 31 '13 at 8:00 1 @user127259 please post your solution as an answer and mark it as the solution / best answer :) –Smile4ever May 23 '15 at

I have a 500GB HDD with these partitions Screenshot.png I'm currently using the live CD to boot because when I try to boot to this HDD it simply comes up with the error "Error loading operating system". It was working fine until I started reformatting a different drive with XP on it; since then it has had the error. As far as I know I need to reconfigure GRUB to boot to the correct partition, but I do not know how to do this. I know that there are already threads about booting/GRUB problems. I have looked at a lot of them but because no one has exactly the same problem as me I do not know what to do. I would really appreciate any help, Thanks in advance, Arachan. I want to dual boot XP, so I started to install it and, when it rebooted, got the "Error loading operating system" message, which was expected since XP wipes out other MBRs. No biggie, I can just boot to a prompt using the Win7 disc and fix it there, right?Nope. When I try that I get "Press any key to boot from CD" and then a blank screen with nothing but a flashing cursor. ::sigh:: Okay, so let's boot using the USB drive I installed Win7 from.Nope.When I do that I get "Error loading operating system" again. WTF?So, anyone know how I can fix this because right now I have a computer whose only function is BIOS tweaking. RobL777 Ars Tribunus Angusticlavius Tribus: SouthEastern U.S.A. Change the boot order so that BIOS looks in the CD drive first, then goes from there. This should allow the Win 7 repair CD to work, if you quickly
