Symptoms of the problem When windows 7 not booting black screen computer is powered up, an error message "Error loading operating system" appears (white-on-black letters in text mode and blinking cursor): 2. Normal boot sequence Normally computer boots as shown below (Windows 7 boot sequence http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/04/SLN128763/en is shown as example): BIOS loads 1st sector from HDD (Master Boot Record), verifies 55 AA signature and transfers control to Master Boot Record. Master Boot Record scans partition table for active partition, then it loads 1st sector from active partition, verifies 55 AA signature, and transfers control to Boot Sector. Boot Sector loads 15 additional sectors from the beginning of disk (Volume Boot Record) and transfers control to http://www.prime-expert.com/articles/b13/fix-error-loading-operating-system.php first additional sector of VBR. Volume Boot Record loads BOOTMGR file from root directory of boot partition into the memory and transfers control to it. BOOTMGR loads Boot\BCD registry hive and displays boot menu. BOOTMGR is able to run memory test and set safe mode boot flag per explicit user request. Winload.exe opens SYSTEM registry hive, gets list of drivers, loads NTOSKRNL.exe, loads drivers (*.SYS files) and transfers control to NTOSKRNL.exe. Winresume.exe loads memory dump from hiberfil.sys and transfers control to it. 3. So MBR emits "Error Loading Operating System" error message and halts machine. The

The end user tried to reimage them with Ghost disks that were not formatted properly. Consequently the reimage process failed. The user then tried to use recovery disks, reinstallation disks and a reinstallation thumb drive but has been unsuccessful. The boot sequence has been changed in bios to put either the cd/dvd drive or the USB drive first. Regardless, rebooting the computer still brings up the black "Error loading operating system" screen. He cannot go any further. We've tried hitting F12 so that it prompts for where to boot, and even when selecting the optical or USB drive, it goes back to the same error. Any advice on how
