3 install error 'Error locating config file--bad path? and 'Invalid path or file name' -- I have Visual Studio 6 Enterprise Ed. running on a win 98 platform. The whole of VS6 including vfp6 was loaded onto my cdrive. (Not a network drive, this is a standalone setup). The VS6 sp3 has been applied as well. Neither before nor after the application of the sp has FoxPro run. I also tried reinstalling. On each occasion it comes up with: 'Error locating config file--bad path?' Clicking OK gives another message: 'Invalid path or https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/163801 file name' As I have no idea where the config file it is referring is, or should be, nor what it is called (so I couldn't move it, even if I knew where to) I am stuck. Any help would be gratefully appreciated. I located a config.fpw file and placed it in the FoxPro root dir, this caused the first message to disappear, but the http://computer-programming-forum.com/2-vfp/1c539a10b8f78ca4.htm second still comes up. The app then fails. Any ideas??? Sun, 06 Oct 2002 03:00:00 GMT Wolfgang Schmal#2 / 3 install error 'Error locating config file--bad path? and 'Invalid path or file name' Hi Jeda! VFP stores the default dir, the default path and other paths for sample, wizzard etc. in the registry. You mentioned the config.fpw. All these settings can also be set in the config.fpw. The settings in the config.fpw have a higher priority as the settings in the registry. If you got VFP running, look under Extras->Options-> File location (Sorry but I'm not sure wether it's the right TAB because I've got only the german version) wether paths exist. -- Mit freundlichen Gr?en Wolfgang Schmale -- I have Visual Studio 6 Enterprise Ed. running on a win 98 platform. This program runs fine on certain machines, but on one of them we are getting the following error:error locating config file - bad path? in Foxpro applicationAll error locating machines are running windows XP Pro... not sure which service pack. The vendor claims that all the files needed are present, and as I said, the program does run on other XP boxes. I'm thinking that there is a runtime patch or something that is not on this machine. It runs Office 2000 if that is any help. The only error locating config other difference I can see is that this machine is a Dell, and the rest are IBM net vista's.Thanks for your help.Scott 07-02-2009 9:51 AM In reply to error locating config file - bad path? in Foxpro application It can be that the config.fpw is actually embedded in the FoxPro .exe file, in which case you will never see that config.fpw file you're looking for. Do you actually see a config.fpw file on your PCs where this app is loaded? If that is the case, the problem that I've seen in config files is that there are temp file, sort file, etc., locations established in that config.fpw file that don't actually exist on the PC the program is installed on.For example, here are some possible settings in a config.fpw file:EDITWORK=C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\PROGWORK=C:\WINDOWS\TEMPSORTWORK=C:\WINDOWS\TEMPTMPFILES=C:\WINDOWS\TEMPIf C:\WINDOWS\TEMP doesn't exist on the PC, you will have problems. I have no idea what your settings may look like in that config file. I'm just giving you an example. In the future, you could post your FoxPro questions in the FoxPro section here at EE:http://www.experts-exchange.com/
config.fpw somewhere in one of the folders returned from >GETENV("PATH")? No >Is there a missing folder in the list of folders returned from >GETENV("PATH")? I am not sure because the listing ends without completing. I did a search on drive C:/ and no file config.fpw was returned. In my E: drive there are several config.fpw and now one more in the VFP9 folder, but this one only helps w vfp9.exe. E. > Well it get's better, every single vfp program, .exe, gives the same message, > > "Error locating config file--bad path". If I start like "vfp9.exe -c config.fpw" it > works ok. > If I use this line on other programs it complains that there is no parameter... > Now is it paranormal activity or what ? . --- StripMime Report -- processed MIME parts --- multipart/alternative text/plain (text body -- kept) text/html --- _______________________________________________ Post Messages to: ProFox .AT. leafe .D.OT com Subscription Maintenance: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox OT-free version of this list: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profoxtech Searchable Archive: http://leafe.com/archives/search/profox This message: http://leafe.com/archives/byMID/profox/1319744191.23770.YahooMailNeo@web160811.mail.bf1.yahoo.com ** All postings, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are the opinions of the author, and do not constitute legal or medical advice.
