Apache from Starting Errors that keep Apache from starting can be very frustrating. This usually happens mysql error messages when Apache is reading the configuration files and finds something it doesn't know how to handle. The first step when you experience this issue is tomcat error messages to check your log file for an error that might point to the problem. The default location of the log files is as follows: Debian (Ubuntu): /var/log/apache2/error_log Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS: /var/log/httpd/error_log Windows: C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache2\logs\error.log Default Location From Compiling Source Code: /usr/local/apache2/logs/error_log If the log files are not in the

above location, you may have defined a different log file location in your httpd.conf file or the VirtualHost section of your .conf file. Some possible conf file errors you may find are listed below. "Unable to configure RSA server private key" and "certificate routines:X509_check_private_key:key values mismatch" Errors If you see one of these errors it usually means that the private key that is being loaded in the VirtualHost section of your .conf file doesn't match the SSL Certificate being loaded in the same section. To check if the two files match, run the following OpenSSL command on each of them: openssl x509 -noout -modulus -in your_domain_com.crt | openssl md5 openssl rsa -noout -modulus -in your_domain_com.key | openssl md5 If the modulus of the two files doesn't match exactly, do one of the following: Find the .key file matching your .crt file and update the VirtualHost in your .conf file to match. I can't reproduce the problem at all. My server and myself are located in the USA, the customer is located in India. I googled on the problem, and the main source seems to be that the SSL port is speaking in HTTP. I checked my server, and this is not happening. I tried the solution mentioned here, but the http://stackoverflow.com/questions/119336/ssl-error-rx-record-too-long-and-apache-ssl customer has stated it did not fix the issue. Can anyone tell me how I can fix this, or how I can reproduce this??? THE SOLUTION Turns out the customer had a misconfigured local proxy! Hope that helps anyone finding this question trying to debug it in the future. apache configuration ssl webserver mod-ssl share|improve this question edited Oct 16 '14 at 2:27 asked Sep 23 '08 at 6:07 Subimage 1,97031818 closed as off topic by casperOne Nov 8 '12 at 17:42 Questions on Stack Overflow are expected to relate to programming within the scope defined by the community. I'm thinking it could also be caused by a misconfigured proxy at their side of things. Any thoughts on that as well? –Subimage Sep 23 '08 at 6:40 11 Since it was closed as off topic but seems to be a very valuable question (ranks very high in Google for this error message) maybe it should be moved to ServerFault? It's a 6-year old question so perhaps SF wasn't available when the question was asked initially... –kdmur
he poses the right questions. -- Claude Levi-Strauss Installation Configuration Certificates The SSL Protocol mod_ssl Support See alsoComments Installation Why do I get permission errors related to SSLMutex https://httpd.apache.org/docs/trunk/ssl/ssl_faq.html when I start Apache? Why does mod_ssl stop with the error "Failed to generate https://www.apachelounge.com/viewtopic.php?p=27082 temporary 512 bit RSA private key" when I start Apache? Why do I get permission errors related to SSLMutex when I start Apache? Errors such as ``mod_ssl: Child could not open SSLMutex lockfile /opt/apache/logs/ssl_mutex.18332 (System error follows) [...] System: Permission denied (errno: 13)'' are usually caused by overly restrictive permissions on the parent directories. error messages Make sure that all parent directories (here /opt, /opt/apache and /opt/apache/logs) have the x-bit set for, at minimum, the UID under which Apache's children are running (see the User directive). Why does mod_ssl stop with the error "Failed to generate temporary 512 bit RSA private key" when I start Apache? Cryptographic software needs a source of unpredictable data to work correctly. Many open source operating systems provide apache ssl error a "randomness device" that serves this purpose (usually named /dev/random). On other systems, applications have to seed the OpenSSL Pseudo Random Number Generator (PRNG) manually with appropriate data before generating keys or performing public key encryption. As of version 0.9.5, the OpenSSL functions that need randomness report an error if the PRNG has not been seeded with at least 128 bits of randomness. To prevent this error, mod_ssl has to provide enough entropy to the PRNG to allow it to work correctly. This can be done via the SSLRandomSeed directive. Configuration Is it possible to provide HTTP and HTTPS from the same server? Which port does HTTPS use? How do I speak HTTPS manually for testing purposes? Why does the connection hang when I connect to my SSL-aware Apache server? Why do I get ``Connection Refused'' errors, when trying to access my newly installed Apache+mod_ssl server via HTTPS? Why are the SSL_XXX variables not available to my CGI & SSI scripts? How can I switch between HTTP and HTTPS in relative hyperlinks? Is it possible to provide HTTP and HTTPS from the same server? Yes. HTTP and HTTPS use different server ports (HTTP binds to port 80, HTTPS to port 443

Hi, I have installed Apache httpd and setup a SSL/TLS connection. SSL/TLS is working without a problem. I can clearly see httpS address in browser. What I have found out that if browser gets some SSL/TLS error like trying to establish SSL/TLS connection with old protocol and web server refuses connection there is no error in SSL/TLS log recorded. I would like that every SSL/TLS attempt with error is recorded in ssl_error.log file. How to define settings in Apache config files to enable SSL/TLS error logging? Details: In Apache http httpd.conf there is setting: Code: ErrorLog "logs/error.log" LogLevel warn In extra/httpd-ssl.conf there are settings: Code: SSLProtocol -ALL +TLSv1.2 and inside
