If those answers do not fully address your question, please ask a new question. libpg is the C client library for postgres, which should be included in the rpm you are trying to install. I suppose that you could try dl'ing the rpm and decompile it to see if that library is present. –Dana the Sane Mar 1 '11 at 17:51 the problem is that libpq.so.4 is installed –nemesisdesign Mar 1 '11 at 18:21 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote accepted This is probably the same problem as this issue, which is why I always (make) install mine from source to avoid package management problems like this: pg_config, ruby pg, postgresql 9.0 problem after upgrade, centos 5 share|improve this answer answered Mar 1 '11 at 19:43 Matthew Wood 7,43312626 thanks it worked out –nemesisdesign Mar 3 '11 at 18:24 add a comment| Not the answer you're looking for? As soon as I saw it I wanted to slit my throat because the last time I encountered this I had to go through hell manually downloading rpms and forcing them to install (ignoring depencencies) until I got things working. Can anyone explain what actually causes this error? Yum is a package manager https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/24714023/What-is-the-cause-of-the-Missing-Dependency-libpq-so-4-error-and-how-do-I-fix-it.html which manages dependencies. Shouldn't it just install something if it's not installed? This page tries to address the problem: http://linux.bgsnow.com/tag/libpq-so-4 however I can't uninstall postgres because I am using Postgres. But, I did try changing /etc/yum.repos.d/CentOS-Base.repo as it described, but it didn't seem to help. Try yum whatprovides libpq.so.4 and probably you will get: No Matches found If your repository is configured well, try to clean and reload the cache: yum clean all Also check what subversion requires: yum deplist subversion (under my CentOS 5 subversion doesn't require libpq.so) 0 LVL 38 Overall: Level 38 Linux 33 Linux Distributions 16 Message Accepted Solution by:wesly_chen2009-09-09 The subversion from CentOS repository need "postgresql-libs" as dependency.
