Http Error Code Missing Parameter
request is missing a required parameter? up vote 180 down vote favorite 33 I am thinking 412 (Precondition Failed) but there may be a better standard? http http-status-codes share|improve this question edited Jun 20 '10 at 21:29 Daniel Vassallo 208k43386380 asked Jun 16 '10 at 3:19 EA. 1,0622913 add a comment| 10 Answers 10 active oldest votes up vote 160 down vote accepted Status 422 seems most appropiate based parameter missing or invalid shopify on the spec. The 422 (Unprocessable Entity) status code means the server understands the content type of the request entity (hence a 415(Unsupported Media Type) status code is inappropriate), and the syntax of the request entity is correct (thus a 400 (Bad Request) status code is inappropriate) but was unable to process the contained instructions. For example, this error condition may occur if an XML request body contains well-formed (i.e., syntactically correct), but semantically erroneous, XML instructions. They state that malformed xml is an example of bad syntax (calling for a 400). A malformed query string seems analogous to this, so 400 doesn't seem appropriate for a well-formed query-string which is missing a param. UPDATE @DavidV correctly points out that this spec is for WebDAV, not core HTTP. But some popular non-WebDAV APIs are using 422 anyway, for lack of a better status code (see this). share|improve this answer edited Jun 17 '14 at 17:14 answered Apr 25 '12 at 20:14 Kelvin 9,97623551 IMO I would use this for when the value in the query string was incorrect, not when there was an extra value or a missing value. ie. It might be error missing required argument base path noted that the error isn't all that helpful in tracking down invalid required parameters wattpad this issue, but obviously it was a very simple thing that I should have caught. I just signed http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3050518/what-http-status-response-code-should-i-use-if-the-request-is-missing-a-required up to try out the service and have been following along with Ajden Towfeek's excellent Pluralsight course. When it comes time to get my first access token I get a 400 error from the service stating https://auth0.com/forum/t/solved-error-missing-username-parameter-but-im-not/1546 that I am "missing username parameter". But I have a username parameter in my request, and I've checked it many times and can verify that it is exactly as I set it up (even checked to make sure there are no trailing spaces). So I am stuck. Here is the error returned: "error": "invalid_request", "error_description": "missing username parameter" Here is a screenshot of my request: getToken.png758x320 18.2 KB I don't know what else to try from my end. I would greatly appreciate some help to get this very basic request working! Thanks! Any ideas on why this is happening and how I can fix it? Sorry we are not live yet so you can't go to our site and test. In the final stages of testing but this needs to be fixed before going live! For parameters it's necessary to have full path in your $ref. See this example: # Example YAML for the bare minimum of required element
