Join Date Dec 2009 Beans 319 DistroUbuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin ok need serious help... My Ubuntu simply will no longer stay connected to my router. I loose signal strength and it looses connection altogether https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1356712&goto=newpost every 30 seconds now. and if it takes long enough to reconnect, it forgets my WEP key and forces me to reenter it and then it asks me against 30 seconds later and so on, when it hits that point I have to disable and re-enable it two or three times ot get it to work, or restart the laptop completely to make it work for a little bit. it's a Dell Inspiron 1150. Dell says I have a have a DELL WIRELESS 1450, Ubuntu says it's a Broadcom B43. and if the first quest is "how close were you to your router, the asnwer is less than 30 feet. When I was on Windows I had no trouble whatsoever connecting over 100 feet away. BTW it seems to have trouble disconnecting the itnernet whanever I USE it. if I'm tryong load a web page, if I'm trying to dowload a file, if I'm just sitting there watching it, it seems to be fine. a duplicate of: Bug #476038: bcmwl-kernel-source depends on linux-headers-generic regardless of kernel flavour in use. Edit Remove 6 This bug affects 1 person Affects Status Importance Assigned to Milestone bcmwl (Ubuntu) Edit New Undecided Unassigned Edit Also affects project (?) Also affects distribution/package Nominate for series Bug Description Installing Broadcom wireless driver for STA series (4313) yields inability to use wireless connections. The reason on the surface is the lack of, e.g., wl0 interface. 02:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4313 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN Controller (rev 01) The versions concerned are all current as of Nov 15, 2012, Ubuntu 12.10, others are stated below. During the installation of sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source broadcom-sta-source broadcom-sta-common a series of errors occurs: Unpacking broadcom-sta-source (from .../broadcom-sta-source_5.100.82.112-7_all.deb) ... Setting up bcmwl-kernel-source (5.100.82.112+bdcom-0ubuntu3) ... Loading new bcmwl-5.100.82.112+bdcom DKMS files... Building for architecture x86_64 Module build for the currently running kernel was skipped since the kernel source for this kernel does not seem to be installed. FATAL: Error running install command for wl The reason for this is obviously the lack of linux-headers which prevents the compilation of the wireless module from the source files
