But whenI am trying to remove the sctp module using rmmod command with http://kernelnewbies.kernelnewbies.narkive.com/hx2uSHnS/unable-to-remove-sctp-kernel-module –f option, kernel shows below error message as ipv6 module uses the sctp module. You have to do something like 'unwind the stack' . First try toremove ipv6 then try sctp. Maybe you'll find ipv6 is referenced bysome other module, go and remove that first.Other option is to leave sctp alone, guess its harmless.Thanks.Post by Padmalochan MoharanaERROR: Module sctp is in use by [unsafe]Is there any other way to remove the sctp module without rebuild the kernelwith setting CONFIG_MODULE_FORCE_UNLOAD?Regards,Padmalochan--To unsubscribe from this list: send an email with"unsubscribe kernelnewbies" to ***@nl.linux.orgPlease read the FAQ at http://kernelnewbies.org/FAQ 1 Reply 50 Views Switch to linear view Disable enhanced parsing Permalink to this page Thread Navigation Padmalochan Moharana 2010-08-21 10:39:37 UTC arshad hussain 2010-08-21 11:16:04 UTC about - legalese Loading...

If I restart the machine, and load the lksctp module by running a simple SCTP based program, the module loads, but the reference count is 2 again, and error module sctp the module can't be unloaded. I've also tried to force the unload with sudo rmmod -f sctp, but that fails with "ERROR: Removing 'sctp': Resource temporarily unavailable". Is there a way to unload the module? I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS with linux kernel 2.6.32-45-generic-pae. Thanks for any help. rmmod -f used to work, but I haven't tried it lately. The reason for the ref=2 is that when lksctp starts up, it creates a control socket which holds those 2 refs on the module. 'modprobe -r' will not let you unload when the module is refed. rmmod -f works around that. sudo rmmod -f sctp returns "ERROR: Removing 'sctp': Resource temporarily unavailable". Is there any workaround for this? Or perhaps this means that I need to rebuild my kernel with CONFIG_MODULE_FORCE_UNLOAD enabled? Yes, you need CONFIG_MODULE_FORCE_UNLOAD. Without it rmmod -f doesn't work. -vlad -vlad - Jon -- To unsubscribe from thi

Hello, I'm writing a kernel driver. After installing (/sbin/insmod) it successfully, I test it but there's a problem that I can't remove it (/sbin/rmmod). Error: Module my_module is in use. Could you tell me how to stop it, or unload or something like that, to remove that module. Currently, I have to restart Fedora... I used "rmmod -w" but it didn't help. But how to remove "user module"? A module is usually shown as using by "a user ID". How can I remove it, it can be ... me? I tried "man lsmod" and "man rmmod" but no useful option. Could you explain for me? Thanks in advance! There must either be another module loaded that depends on the one that you're trying to unload, or, the one that you're trying to unload is being used by some
