use the "option" driver in your version; so the "usbserial" driver has rmmod return code to be used. This is not (yet) automated in usb_modeswitch. But I might add it in the future. force rmmod Do a "modprobe -v usbserial vendor=0x12d1 product=140c" and see if you get ttyUSB ports. But no, doesn't work that way either. modprobe -vvv usbserial vendor=0x12d1 product=140c ls -al /dev/ttyU* ls: cannot access /dev/ttyU*: No such file or directory I also tried removing modules first, just in case: rmmod usb-storage rmmod usb-serial lsusb Bus 001 Device 006: ID 12d1:140c Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. modprobe usbserial vendor=0x12d1 product=0x140c Top Josh Posted: Thu http://www.draisberghof.de/usb_modeswitch/bb/viewtopic.php?p=3307 Sep 09, 2010 5:17 pm Site AdminPosts: 5860Joined: Sat Nov 03, 2007 12:30 am O.K., please turn on logging as indicated on the doc page, paragraph "Troubleshooting". Also, post what "dmesg" says after trying to load "usbserial" (the last 30 lines or so). I have downloaded the windows and linux sample code and drivers, https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=183111 and installed them according to FTDI's instructions. In Windows, my dev board shows up when I run the FTDI sample code for listing devices, but not in Arch Linux. In Arch Linux, the device shows up in lsusb https://www.libelium.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=10054 and I am able to program the FPGA over the usb connection, so it seems odd to me that the FTDI sample application is not seeing it.I'm not really familiar with how usb interfaces work, so any error module suggestions for how to proceed or debug this would be appreciated. However, neither of these modules were loaded in my system, so that's not it.[c2hollow@bluerocket Downloads]$ sudo rmmod usbserial ftdi_sio rmmod: ERROR: Module usbserial is not currently loaded rmmod: ERROR: Module ftdi_sio is not currently loaded Offline #4 2014-06-19 20:53:37 ewaller Administrator From: Pasadena, CA Registered: 2009-07-13 Posts: 13,518 Re: FTDI device shows up in windows, not in linux Did you look in /dev for something of the form /dev/ttyUSBx when you attach it?Almost every FTDI device I've ever hooked to my box works. Even one that my dad bought that was apparently built using a counterfeit chip. The Windows driver on his Windows box refused to use it, It worked swimmingly in Linux. One other thing to check. Ensure that your running kernel (uname -a) is the same version as the one that is installed (pacman -Qi linux). It won't work if your kernel cannot find its modules.
