It lists (hd0) (hd0,msdos5) (hd0,msdos3) (hd0,msdos2) (hd0,msdos1) (hd1) (hd1,msdos1) Then check them one by one: ls (hd0,msdos5)/ ls (hd0,msdos1)/ But I cannot find the right partition. The installation went smoothly and finished. But after booting it complains: error: no such partition Grub rescue> Prior to this computer, I tried the DVDs on another and the installation worked nicely and there was no such error. Simplifying the partition table may (or may not) resolve the issue. –samiam Feb 3 '14 at 8:12 What is in your /etc/fstab and what is when you type blkid?
